You may want to see what the manufacturer recommends. Might need an air gap?
I’m with @chim - not sure I can give a good answer. Been too long since I dealt with them.

Reverse osmosis. Nothing in the manual so I just put about 1/4" into drain line and it worked, no leakage so I call it good. This one is a non-airgap model.

Keep it in the P-trap water or you'll hear the gurgling of the RO unit when it's cleaning itself, when my P-trap tries up, I hear it

Lots of codes require an increaser on the main drain & equipment drain just goes no further than the increaser. Just FYI if you ever sale and a so called " home inspector " is doing his darndest to show you how smart they are.
