I put a hall effect rpm on my old lathe for rpm, uses a magnet on the rotating shaft. Cheap at about $20

yes, age old, ultra reliable 'variable reluctance' sensor..
will need 'calibration'..as per instruction sheet...
used a lot of them when I was younger...design/build 'spreaders'

I bought something like THIS a while back for my B7100 - works well. Hardest part is epoxying the magnet to the rotating pulley! First try was not successful - however it has been on and working for the last 5 years.

First I hate digital gauges especially that if digital is what I wanted I would have bought a Tiny Tac. But if the one I referenced only needs the flywheel teeth and calibration then it's my way to go. Would just need to build a small gauge pod on my hood so I can then mount a temp gauge and oil pressure gauge. Would love to have a fuel gauge rather than just a light as well, but I don't want to get "greedy" LOL
