Hello, looking for some advise
I had a massive cranial cramp and stupidly (maybe it was my eyes??) installed my battery with polarity reversed.
No my tractor won't start at all. No sign of life. Fuses are intact. It's -21 and a huge dump of snow coming.
Any ideas for fixing?
Look at the circuit diagram and you will most likely see a 40 amp fuse in the circuit between the battery and the starter.
For what it's worth, I too had a brain fart and hooked the battery up backward. on our M4500.
All that happened was I blew that fuse. Talk about being PO'd at myself...

Hi Everyone
Thanks for all the help, though it seems the topic has drifted a little :)
Flintknapper is correct, that is what the fuse looked like.
The closest Kubota guy couldn't get it for at least a week but our local agricultural mechanic had a 30A fuse that fit so I put that in...... everything works and I just finished plowing the driveway! :)

Thanks again for the help and now I will actually admit that I need glasses and will put them on before attaching battery leads

That is a standard automotive fuse, and since the manufacturer calls for a 50 amp fuse in that location, I would get one ASAP and have it on hand, should the 30 amp that you have substituted should blow out. If you have any one of the automotive chain stores (NAPA, Advanced, Auto Zone, O'Reilly's, etc nearby, I would call and see if they have one or more in stock. I would also buy a spare and tape it to the wire where it goes, should you ever need another sometime in the future. That is why have the two pictured above. The handicap wagon that I use at the automotive flea markets uses that type of fuse, and they are difficult to find on short notice. They all say "I can get it for next week" when you need it now.

Good advice, all of it. The 30 amp is safe, since it's less than the rating, but it probably won't last, either.

re: That is a standard automotive fuse

hahahahaha... good one ..... 'standard' .....hehehehehe

To me a 'standard' auto fuse would be a 3AG series...bout 1.25" long glass tube, metal ends...
then the 'standard' was ATC style...
then fusible links...
then ATC mini
then ATC MAX
somewhere ATM(?) I think
then the 'sugar cubes' came out

2 weeks from now, there'll be yet another 'standard' automotive fuse.......

At least there's no polarity to worry about ! Computer industry did that (swapped pins) on communications ports......THAT was 'fun'......

earthquake 'scale' was changed as well....

yup 'standards'.......
