The tractor is 9 days old. I absolutely love it. Except for the reverse pedal. After 3 hours of mowing on it I am now having Achille's tendon pain on my right leg.

For those who have removed the horizontal spring, have you had any issues afterward? I hate to start messing around with a brand new tractor, but something needs to be done to reduce the force needed to use the reverse.

Thanks

I agree reverse takes a lot of pressure but I’m wondering if removing the spring would cause an issue with going or staying in neutral? If you do it please post the results.

I may just remove it and replace it with a much weaker spring. There's no sense in it being this difficult.

If I am backing up and pick my foot up to quickly, it shuts it down like I jammed on the brakes.

It's like the reverse pto safety switch that was on my 1025R I traded in. To back up while mowing, you had to push the pto rocker switch before backing up or it would shut the mower down.

A big thank you to GSD-Keegan for the info.

I removed the horizontal gray spring with drum brake spring tool. (Yes, I'm that old.)

I just drove it around the property. It is MUCH easier to use the reverse now.

When I released the pedal going either forward or reverse it went right back to neutral

I've had mine off for a considerable amount of time, no issues. I might even replace one of the others with a lighter spring. There is no provision to grease the pedal shaft, so I drilled a small hole near the center of the tube thru to the shaft so I can grease it with a needle point grease gun tip. I cover the hole with a hose clamp to keep dirt and water out.

yep, I’m pretty much that old too John. 😃. I have some drum brake tools in my cabinet as well, along with other tools that got well used back in the day…now just clutter, but they bring back memories…some good…some …well…trying. Lol
