I need to remove the cowling under the seat/front. To do this I need to remove the plastic pressed on knobs for seat adjustment and rear implement speed. Any idea how to get them off without destroying them?

Gently heat them up with a heat gun to soften the knob up should help. Same for putting the knob back on.

The word here is slowly - low heat on the heat gun and 6-8" away - otherwise the plastic will melt and deform. Patience - something I too often forget!
