Thanks all for advice. No joy with hitting poppets with bolt and hammer covered with a rag. Could not get enough fluid to vent as it was difficult to hold hose steady. Cracked fittings at cylinder end of hoses with leather gloves and covered by rag. Released at most a teaspoon at the most prolific joint. Eureka! One by one we got them on. Six in all includng 3rd function. About another hour to align tractor properly and get loader back on. This was the first time I had done this changeover as it was first season using snow blower.

I am very grateful for all the great advice and help on this forum. Thanks to all!

Go out first thing in the morning when it is cold and try attaching the fittings. The pressure will be less and a good chance that they will hook right up.
Thanks BAP. Tractor at my woodlot and could not get there before work. Will keep this tip on mind for future. Appreciate the advice.

One other suggestion to minimize this problem. Before you disconnect the loader or other hydraulic attachment, always try to cycle the controls often enough that the cylinders settle into a fully neutral condition. If you leave one with some weight on it, gravity will pressurize the line and the connectors.

A flat, solid surface is always a better parking spot than lumpy, uneven ground for this purpose.

While temperature changes can be an issue, getting attachments parked in a stable, inert configuration can help a lot.

That's why I said to use a metal rod to reach the poppet on the female coupling. This its very easy to do and does not damage the fitting. Just insert the short rod, wrap a rag around and give the end of the rod a sharp tap. Fluid will release and the pressure will be off.
I have fwd remotes on my MX4800 for my grapple that I swap out for a bucket often. I keep a small hammer and a six inch by 1/2 inch aluminum flat punch to tap the nipples on both fittings. works fine. Also helps to have the grapple in a position where it is not trying to force a cylinder in or out. You get pretty used to it. Of note, I had a female fitting leaking slightly, pulled the o-ring out and replaced it today, easy job.

Wow. Really? That much pressure? I have heard of hydaulic fluid embolism but would expect that pressure with engine running, not when sitting idle for months. Thank you for advice!
I had a relative lose 90% usage of his index finger due to injection of spray-on ceiling textured paint. Line pressure was about 150ps. Doesn't take much to penetrate the skin.

The tip clogged on the spay gun, he was holding it with his index finger near the spray nozzle, and he turned the gun to look at the tip. While turning the gun he inadvertently squeezed the trigger and the clog broke free. His finger and the back of his hand immediately filled with paint. Surgeons cleaned it out 3 or 4 times and he ended up with a big, fat arch shaped index finger with very limited movement.

I only recently added a 3rd function and grapple bucket to my tractor. Never had any hydraulic lines prior. First time I disconnected, I also struggled getting them re-connected even though I did my best to relieve all the pressure before disconnecting the implement.

Does anyone know if there is a tool available to relieve the residual pressure? Something say, like a set of channel locks with adapters to activate the valves at the end of the male and female couplers?

If not, I may try to fabricate something.

While you do need to connect them, you're not working against the pressure until you turn in the screw. They should not be difficult to connect as long as you have the right size and type.

I think these are designed just to clamp the connectors together.

Don't have one but see references to them occasionally.

My loader connections are in a very tight spot.

Have hard enough time getting one hand in there.

Not sure there's room enough for the tool....

That makes sense. Thanks for the reply.
