Possibly more air in the fuel line possibly. Might want to check fuel flow from the tank as well.

I agree, sounds like you still have air in the system/line or a cracked/punctured line that is allowing it to suck air. Sometimes you can "partially" pressure the tank with compressed air while the filter inlet line is cracked open. Continue with the pressure until you get a solid stream of fuel and then with the fuel still escaping, tighten the fitting. Also be sure to bleed at the injectors as well.....

I have seen some dandies over the years with your symptoms. Once was a when a disgruntled operator placed a ping pong ball in the fuel tank. Another was discovered to be a discarded shop rag in the tank. Both gave similar symptoms (although the engine would run considerably longer). In my examples- the foreign object would float around for an random period of time until it got sucked up to the inlet screen. At that point it would starve the engine. Once the engine quit, the suction was released and the object resumed floating around and the engine would start right back up..... Quite the head scratcher there.

thanks all for your thoughtful ideas...found out finally it was a stuck oil pressure control switch...the determination is made as follows...attach all lead wires from the switch to one terminal...if the engine runs, it means the switch has frozen and needs to be replaced...interesting problem...

Glad you found the problem. I'm sure that one could have been a real mind teaser! ;-)
