My only intent at suggesting something different than teflon tape was to help others avoid a pitfall of tape. If the connection is clean, the tape applied properly, and the joint never disassembled in the future….then likely no harm will accrue. I suspect Kubota never expects a teflon-tape installation to present a disassembly-problem within the warranty-period and that is taken into consideration when they use it. They also will not share in the blame if the joint is disassembled in the future and some unknowledgeable or careless wrench-jockey doesn’t clean all the debris remaining from the previous use of tape.

The aircraft-comparison was only to indicate the truth of the described problem of tape.
I only hoped to prevent future troubles for owners…or the next owner….of the machine.

It’s yours. Use what you like.

This thread goes back a ways, but well, here I am years later.
Several have mentioned different types of sealants and there are several mentioned, Loctite, Rectorseal Tru-Blu, Permatex, Vibra-Tite, and probably others. I have looked into these manufactures and there are several different products available. My question is what product # of these manufactures is the right choice for a hydraulic thread sealant?
I have tried using Teflon tape but still having a leak issue so I will leave any discussion about Teflon tape out of this please. I know several of you have mentioned that Teflon tape works fine and even my dealer recommended it, but no thank you and thanks for your understanding.

If it leaks you have issues other than the sealant.

This is what I use in lieu of tape. You can find the same thing with a Loctite logo.

That may be, I'm also replacing my fittings with better ones. I used iron pipe fittings to test the flow restrictors I installed just to see how well they worked. Pleased with them, so I am going to use better fittings and sealant.

In re-reading thru this thread I couldn’t help but notice “Abby” (a Nom de Pen…. if that in itself doesn’t raise question) … ”Abby” disapproved wife-beating but approved it for children.
It’ a shame we can’t asker her about Teflon tape.

Gasoila is a teflon-paste thread sealant for those of us who want to run the entire gamut of risks.

After reading thru this “thread” I’m still sealing the deal (and threads) with Hokie and Permatex.

Hydraulic fittings have high quality NPTF/NPSF ("Dryseal") pipe threads.

Iron pipe fittings are NPT and often low quality.

The more times you assemble/dissassemble a NPT(x) joint the more deformation and potential for leaks you introduce.

For best results get rid of as many NPT connections as you possibly can.

Another vote for Aviation Permatex. I have used it for years on any fuel or oil pipe thread fitting.
