Especially now with the shorter wheel-base Kubota there is no way I could do it with just the box blade. Once I get most of the material about where I think I want it I make a few passes with the rear blade, mainly to get rid of the humps.
Bob - - just a suggestion....when you start grading with the BB, use a shorter/more aggressive top link. Lengthen it gradually as needed to move/profile/level.

When you get "close" with the BB, lengthen your top link more to the point the front blade of the box is 1/4" above a flat/level surface. It will provide a smooth finish.

There is a learning curve with a BB. It's all in the top link length. My BB is my favorite implement. This is just a finish grading after 6 weeks of use.

I'm getting better at the logistics such as above. This year I had much more trouble with washboards and the box blade. Front wheels ride up on a hump, pushes blade down, front wheels drop off and/or back wheels ride up, blade lifts and dumps material. I was blaming the shorter wheel base (Kubota == 75 inches, JD == 90 inches and the blade seems to be a lot further behind the seat on the JD). Being able to follow up with the back blade (angled) helped a lot with that. I'm going to try Shadetree03's suggestion next time.

Also, what we call "gravel" here is what I called "dirt" when I lived back east. Think of a rural road in VA or GA, hard packed dirt with a smattering of aggregate.

'gravel' OK WHAT kind of 'gravel' ? I know diferent areas call 'gravel' different names BUT there's is NO way a load of '3/4 clear' will ever be a driveway. You need a 'mix' of sizes, some call it '3/4minus'. so that it'll pack down and 'firm up'. If possible, borrow a 4' wide BIG roller,FULL of water, it'll be +-1000#. Make several passes left, right, center, again and again.

It sounds like you're talking about a land plane, I believe he is asking about a rear blade.
Good catch. Sorry. I was thinking box blade. “ Momentary loss of situational awareness “ is what we used to call it in the Coast Guard.

I’m looking forward to the day Kubota realizes that the advantage of a MidMower also benefits a blade...and will develop a Mid-Blade for grading.

I have a plain blade, a box blade, and a land-plane. The plain blade is still here only because it was once owned by my lovingly-remembered now-deceased father-in-law. It is yard art .... because it is largely useless.

I'm surprised to hear that about the land plane. I have no experience with one, but believe they are touted as being superior to a box blade for driveway maintenance. Remembering that you have a right away for an landing strip for your private plane, I would have thought a land plane might have been very useful to you.

BUT maybe I am remembering the road next to your airstrip, and perhaps the landing strip is satifactory as mowed grass.

Perhaps you misunderstood my previous post ? I have no complaint about my land-plane.

Yes, I obviously did!

"Plain blade" must of confused me, probably thinking it was written as "plane" blade, I suppose.

I assume now you were referring to a back blade, which is the term I am used to hearing (or maybe rear blade). My error...

I didn't know about top n tilt when I bought the tractor so I have no rear remotes and no 3rd function to run anything fancy off of. I can't find a gauge wheel for sale anywhere but I think that would solve a lot of my issues.
i have a couple of skid shoes on my rear blade, and I can adjust the height of the blade by adding and removing washers. The shoes will slide on top of the gravel if it’s not too deep, and the blade should remove just a bit off the top. Failing that, I just reverse the blade and it won’t scoop/dig as much...but merely spread the material.
