Has anyone fabricated new or modified their rear blade to be more of a wedge shape like a highway plow? Something I noticed this past week is that if I had more of an angle and height to that blade, it would through the snow over the side of the driveway trench instead of piling it up against the sides. Also has me thinking of either a FEL bucked attached blade that is larger or a SSQA blade similar to a pickup truck blade. Love to see what you guys are doing in this department. For the amount of snow we get, I can't justify a blower that would sit idle for years.

I’m in the planning stages of using my 60” ATV plow on a home made ssqa adapter that will Also work to pick up 3pt attachments for moving them or loading/unloading them on my trailer. It’s going to maintain the same pivots that the Polaris bracket uses, and float on its own weight. to lift it I’m going to use a strap or chain, using curl/lift on my loader. Similar to the way a brush hog floats on a chain on the rear of a machine. This is to sublime the my rear blower I just got. then I will be able to use my tractor for more things and not have to use my ATV for snow removal.

Not sure I can picture exactly what you have in mind. If I made my rear blades taller they wouldn't rotate 360 degrees. If by wedge shaped you mean a V-plow, that's something I've not seen on a rear blade. It could likely be done if you wanted to plow in reverse? I've used rear blade rotated so they would throw snow to one side and they worked fairly well forwards and backwards.

Several of us have built SSQA plows and are using them successfully. There are threads here showing builds and details.

On smaller tractors like L-series or xx50 big B series, have people had problems tweaking their FELs due to the uneven loading that often is the case with plowing blades?

Been on two tractor boards for a long time and cannot recall hearing any first hand reports of snow plow damage to that arms. It is something that gets mentioned.
I do remember hearing of people who heard from a friend who read something somewhere...... You get the picture.

Look at a six way blade, you can off set the blade to push the sides off into the ditch.
But if you loose traction it will simply push you sideways in a quick hurry.

On true 'snowplow' blades, the top of the blade has to be in front of the btm of the blade by a 'magical' amount. This was about 2 3/4" for the blade on the first CJ-5 I had. Like life ,it was a compromise ,to get the snow to 'curl' up,up and away'.......Snow density(wet or dry) and ground speed are factors...but 'real world testing' showed 2 3/4" was best overall. Snowblades are taller of course, which also affects the magical number.

I’m not plowing in reverse so wedge shape would limit which way I could angle the blade but my thought is with that wedge I wouldn’t need to necessarily do that. At this point I’m thinking a separate blade that can bolt on to the frame so I still have the original blade to use for grading

Having that sideways push now with my current blade. I lessened it a bit by offsetting about a foot blade which keeps my front wheels out of the loose stuff. Usually if the blade is steering me I switch to letting the bucket float and do the scoop and dump

It seems like the commercial snow plows are super reinforced. I think it’s doable, but probably not a good idea to skimp on the reinforcement of the quick attach.

I’ve thought about buying one of the 1/4 quick attach plates and then welding receivers for my UTV blade attachments that connect to my UTV frame. I’m not sure if I’d ever use it since my UTV handles the snow great with no chains.
