Hi new to the forum. I have a bx 24 with a Rck60b-23bx mid mount mower. The mower deck gearbox requires tear down and rebuild after a rock was wedged under mower and destroyed the drive spindle/shaft from gearbox to blade. The problem I have encountered is there is only ONE access panel on the top of the gearbox. When I look for YouTube video and in the Kubota shop manual the gearbox should have TWO access panels to allow for spindle removal in both directions. As a result I cannot figure out how to remove the pto spindle. Any and all guidance is appreciated. Thank you.

Maybe you have a RCK60B-22BX, take a look at this diagram online. It is slightly different to the model you mentioned.

It would be helpful to see a photo of your unit. In either case you are removing the oil seals to access the circlip retainer rings, it looks like you will have to drop the output vertical shaft before you can remove the horizontal PTO shaft.

I just looked at rebuilding a Woods 75HP rotary cutter gearbox that suffered a similar fate, I stripped it, worked out the parts I needed but the parts cost was crazy.it was much cheaper to buy a new gearbox, but I don't think that will apply to you as I see they are crazy expensive.

Good Luck with it.

So I have a different diagram that lists the same mower deck. I have the right deck number but my manual has a different photo and instructions. Thank you very much. I will try to muddle through. I may reach out for more help but this is a start. Cheers.

I think I have the same problem with one access panel on top the gear box. How do you rewove the access panel to get to the seal, etc? Looks like some type of soft material that I may break.

Cover should be a rubberish metal thing. Small flat head under the lip and pry working around it, till it pops out.

Eureka, that worked, thanks. Now, I found that the gearbox was empty. Don't know how long but the real noise started yesterday. I shut it down. So, now I got the pulley off the gear box by removing the snap rings. The gears and splines look fine. Just no lube. Looks like the seals are probably leaking but they don't look damaged. The deck is over 13 years old and I only put gear oil in the gear box 2x. I am just going to replace the seals and hope for the best. Any suggestions as to how to be sure the seals are at fault? Second, how in the hell do I get the snap ring back on the spline shaft that is inside the gearbox and holds the pulley shaft in place?

Good deal. No idea on the other, as I’ve never worked on that exact box. Only ones I’ve torn into are from an F mower and a zd331.

This was an easy tell of needing seals, as a few other things.
