Hi, I don't know how many owners out there are anal enough to grease the anti scalp wheels on their mowers. I am :p
I've had this mower for a few months and decided it was time to give it the once over. During this process, I used a quality grease gun on all the nipples listed in the manual. When I got to the anti scalp wheels, I found that I couldn't remove the grease gun without pulling out the nipples :(
This happened on each of the four wheels and they came out without much effort.
On closer examination, I realised that the nipples weren't threaded but were a press fit design. I queried this with Kubota who were surprised and, when they checked the parts manual, confirmed that they should have been threaded.
Easy fix.....they got me to drop off the wheels at my local dealer who fitted threaded nipples for me at no cost.
In all and apart from this minor problem, the deck is very well made and cuts better than my old Polaris 60" pull behind. It has a very solid construction and adds to the versatility of an already very versatile BX25.
I have also had a problem with the mounting linkage for the mower but, as this is an issue with the tractor rather than the mower, I'll cover that in a separate thread.

Not trying to be a smart a$$ but you know the end of your grease gun is adjustable to fit all different sizes of fittings?

I have a B7500 with mid mount mower 60" and I have mounting problems also when I raise the deck for transporting the deck hits rear wheels.

I'm interested in finding out your problem

Hi I had the same problem even when they're threaded so I had the bolts drilled on a lathe threaded the hole and now is lot easier to grease without crawling around looking for the fitting. Welcome to the sight. Hope this helps Barry

What size drill did you use and how deep and did you put just one hole or did you cross drill through the bolt/axle??

I did it some time ago, I used a 1/8 drill going in from the end to about where the center of the wheel would be, then I drilled another hole into that one from the side, I didn't drill through the pin so as not to weaken it too much. I used a slightly larger drill and tapped it for a small grease fitting in the end, they don't pull out and don't break off as they are still recessed into the wheel a little. Hope this helps Barry

Actually, no. And that's definitely not being a smart a$$ :) What is obvious to one person is not always obvious to another. I did not know that the grease gun is adjustable for different size nipples. I will investigate if that is the case on mine.

That being said, it fitted all the nipples fine and that includes the tractor nipples as well. It was just that the nipples were pressed into the plastic wheels instead of threaded.

Thanks for the comment.

That sounds like the deck isn't quite compatible with the mower. Do you have extra heavy treads on the back wheels? Are they over inflated? If it only happens when the deck is raised fully, you might be able to adjust the linkage so that it doesn't rise quite as high. On the BX25, there is a non adjustable 'stop' that restricts the deck from lifting too high. More about that later.

My problem is different to that and I'm waiting for the dealer to get back to me with a solution (hopefully) before I post about it.

Hi Skeets sorry I didn't back sooner, you can do it with a drill press. Make a plate with a hole in it the same size as the bolt clamp it to the press, center punch your bolt and drill. You have to pull out often because your drill will overheat and use lots of lube. Make sure your center when you start you only get one kick at the cat as they say, you could use a practice bolt. I did 4 this way and it works but just a lot easier on a lathe. Have fun Barry
