Have a LX2610su with Goodyear 25x8.5-14 R14 tires on front. Today a little stick laying on the ground about 1" dia and blunt on the end punctured the tire in the tread area. Never seen a tire puncture so easily. Hope it can be patched. Are R14 tires a softer thinner tire than R4's? My 2 previous tractors always had R4's on them and I never had a puncture.

I'll go w/ Idaho Wolfman as the expert comparatively.
FWIW I have the R14s and have only punctured the front but I take ALL stupid responsibility as I ran over an old C. coop with big nails. Other than that incident (on me) they have been pretty tough in all situations over rock and rough terrain

I have solid foamed front tires on my L3450, I really don't recommend it unless your really having a huge flat tire issue, it's a really rough ride.
So ordered a 25x8.5-14 R14 from the dealer. I repeatedly said the tires were R14. After driving over an hour to get to the dealer, what the dealer actually got in was an R4 by Carlstar their Ground Pounder 400. Initially I was going to refuse the R4 and the dealer went back to see if he could get the R14 to which he told me that R14's had been discontinued. Really? So I looked at the R4 and it seemed like a heavier built tire so I went ahead with it and ordered a second one for the front so the fronts would match. I weighed the R14 and it weighed 24lbs. The R4 weighs 32 lbs. That's an 8 lb difference on a 25" tire. The R4 is a much stouter tire than the R14.
I'm thinking about going to R4 on the rear tires also. The rears are 15-19.5. Anyone have any experience or onions on the Carlstar (formerly Carlisle) Ground Pounder 400's?

What do you have on the tractor now for tires? R1, R3 and R4 tires take different rim sizes. R4 tires will not give you as much traction as a R14 tire will.
Those are the tires that came on it. In the southwest those tires do not hold up. One tire finally had a 1" puncture that took the tire out. Never had such a soft tire. The weight difference between an R14 (24 lbs) and an R4 (32 lbs) shows how lightly constructed the R14s are made.
