I had the good fortune of massively quieting the metal panel doors for my future shop with these butyl sound deadening mats. It even dampened the noise from the sloppy wheels etc. Highly recommended!

My intention was to make some effort to minimize shop noise escaping, and hoped for the side benefit of quieting the doors. Man was I pleasantly surprised. Didn't realize the extent of the drum effect of the panels.

I got the Amazon Basics version, which are bright blue, but I'll be putting rigid foam panels on top of them for insulation. Currently $18 for 10 pads, roughly 1 sq ft each. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07XMF2V77

Hope this can help someone else.

Greg

I filled all my panels with the thin bubble wrap type insulation a few years back and got the same results. The stuff weighed nothing but I still had to add some tension on the springs.

I tried to order a new insulated door back in covid when one of the springs broke and that turned out to be impossible. It was like none of the companies even wanted the business. They all quoted 6 months wait times and some even said if it arrived with dents and dings I had to accept it. My door is an uncommon size at 18' wide. I finally ordered new springs through HD and installed them myself.

I had already bought a more powerful opener to accommodate the new heavier door I wanted. It was a belt drive and my old opener was a screw. It is 10 times quieter and no need to lube. I don't miss that messy screw drive.
