Hey guys new to the forum. Been reading for a little while just bought a new L2501 gear drive. My question is the dealer tossed in a quick hitch in the deal. I noticed they installed the top link in the number 1 hole on the tractor which is the top hole. And the tractors on the lot with quick hitches on them are also in the top hole. I'm going to be mostly using a rotary cutter. The manual says top link needs to be in hole number 3 for mower which is bottom hole. Just wondering what's everyone's thoughts on this seems to be a great site. Thanks in advance

They probably just put it in the top hole to be consistent. I have a QH and use whatever hole gives me the lift I need. The bottom hole will allow you to lift the mower higher.

When hooking up and leveling your rotary cutter, most people think that from front to back, a rotary deck should be level which is not the case. The front should be set slightly lower, about half an inch to an inch, depending on the thickness and height of the overgrowth. This allows the blades to work as designed, cutting in front without dragging the rear blades through the grass. Do you have a 3 point stop? I use the bottom hole on mine due to having the top and tilt which in the top hole gets to close to my back window for comfort(1mm more and I would of had to buy a window).

Thanks for the replies. When I get. a chance I will check the clearance on the tail lights. Would hate to bust a tail light right out of the gate. As far as the raising height that makes sense thanks. Yes I have a 3 point stop.

My M5660 has 4 holes. My top link lives in hole 3 99% of the time. Moving to hole 4 will bring the tail of the attachment up higher.

FWIW, I don't hook up the top link for my rotary cutter... Been mowing enough that I don't have anything (left) to hit (I've hit everything by now!!). The rare occasion that I need to clear an object, lifting the arms is all I need. I cut over and through some pretty bad ditches that would put the top link into a bind.

I do the same with my finishing mower, I just drag it behind the tractor....
