Quick Hitch choice

I am waiting delivery of an MX 6000 cab with a category 2 three point. My salesman suggested a category 1 quick hitch because most category 2 brush hogs and plows have both cat 1 and 2 attachment points but if I buy an implement with cat 1 only it won’t fit a cat 2 quick hitch.
Any thoughts?

He's correct. My Farm Hand quick hitch will accommodate either a cat 1 or 2 tractor and cat 1 only on the implement side. You can put a cat 1 QH on a cat 2 3PH but you'll need bushings in the lower link and top link swivelly balls.

Make a wishlist of future attachments. See what they recommend for horsepower.
You may need to get cat2 implements, if so get the bigger QH.

Suspect tractor with cat2 3pt really needs the bigger implements.

The tractor will come with adapters to take Cat1 pins to Cat2.

I would go with the Cat2 hitch. Adapters can be bought to go on all implements if needed.

Good day. I had similar situation earlier this year. I went with QH20. So far no regrets. But I believe deciding factor is which implements will you get? If you go with land pride then they are mostly QH acceptable and are good for both cat 1 and 2 QH. When you start looking outside the family, then you are more likely to find standard cat 1 QH acceptable implements. So sort of depend on what you plan to add in terms of attachments and the size. Cat 1 implements are genrarally less expensive…also less heft. Your Mx has mid size power…how big attachment will also determine how much of the Hp will be used and in turn stress the implements. Happy shopping.

I have a Ford 4000 tractor, around 45-50hp. It has both sets of lift arm balls. It's a little on the small side for cat2, a little large for cat1. HP ratings of implement can help to prevent damaging the implements.

Bushings are 1/2 the equation, lift arm spacing also changes as shown on this LP QH chart
Agree. QH are nice, but kinda sticks you to what you can use.

I went with Pats Cat2 and euro ball/hook top link. Hopefully that will prove better than a standard QH.

For me on my MX-6000 I just have stayed away from a quick hitch because of having too many different Cat one and Cat two pieces of equipment that a quick hitch wouldn't play with nice. Over time I may change some over to accept a quick hitch and go that way as all my big tractors run quick hitches for Cat three and up. Where the arms on the MX-6000 will extend I have no issues getting hooked up without a quick hitch.

Euro QH hooks work with any width that your draft arms will reach. Cat 1 & or cat 2 connections, same hook, different implement balls.

Just another option to consider.

I was at the dealer today looking at a new MX. I noticed that they come standard with telescoping lift arms. I am wondering it this makes changing implements easy enough that a quick hitch is unnecessary?

Telescoping lift arms have 3-4" of travel and some up & down play. They do make implement connections easier, they usually allow 1 lift arm to connect and tractor needs to be backed up to connect 2nd lift arm. The good news, if open station & loader installed, bucket curl can roll tractor back a few inches.

With QH, back into implement & lift it. Locking levers can be left down, heavy implements over power spring loaded locking tabs during connection.

I have gone 20 years with my current tractor without a quick hitch. I think I’ll try the telescoping arms on the MX before deciding if I need a quick hitch.

I had a Land Pride QH05 on the BX and have a Land Pride QH10 on the MX with factory top-n-tilt. This makes hooking up to implements about as easy it can be and I'll be running the same set up on the new MX cab tractor. All of the Cat 2 rear implements also have the Cat 1 interface so there's no issue with compatibility.

The QH10 works with every rear implement that I have which includes the following:

Land Pride rear blade RB3796
Land Pride snow blower SB1574
Land Pride rotary cutter RCR1884
EA box blade 84"
EA land leveller 84"
King Kutter receiver
Herd 750 seeder

Maybe this is common knowledge but you can lock an implement into the QH with the levers down in the locked position ... just sayin'.

I agree with you in all that. Have two tractors. Both with the telescoping arms. The little fella has much smaller implements and I put dollys under the attachments. That works until it doesn’t if when there is an oops it bends the top link arm. I do not have a QH on the little one but wish I did hover I only have a couple attachments. On my larger one the toys that go with that are way larger, and if necessary I would buy a second QH to be able to use with implements that do not fit my QH 20. QH is so much easier and safer not try to wrestle implements. Link arms don’t help wrestling. And when you want to seemless change from one to another it makes it a snap…. You f you have a helper you don’t even have to leave the seat.
