Dose any one know if PVC glue will work on a plastic bucket? I priced uniseals and geeezzzz of petes are they expencive, so I figure drill a hole inthe bucket as close to the same size as the PVC pipe and push a piece of pipe through and then brush glue around it,, any ideas, cause I have no idea

I would look into the threaded PVC to try and secure it better. I would also use epoxy over pipe glue.

A bulkhead fitting might work better. You'd just need to find one that works with curved surfaces.

I doubt it, most buckets are polyethylene, and pvc glue will not work on that.
I would get a bulkhead fitting as stated above.

Also if the bucket is empty at the time of assembly you could try an epoxy and try and make large chamfers on either side of the pipe. That might seal it but no guarantee.

Bulk head fittings are the best, then Silicone (RTV) sealant, or better yet Lexel.

Ok call me cheap I had couple of rubbermaid water tubs get cracked I used flex seal tape both sides. Then flex seal spray thin coats then faraday 2 to 3 coats. I still use them today been patched 2 years ago.

If I was to go with a large container for an ebb and flow system yep the bulkhead fitting would be the ticket. However experimenting, I am using buckets hence the uni-seal question and with gluing the pipe in place. I never thought about the threaded fittings that might work with the sillycone

How big of a fitting? You can can get an Electrical nut on it with gaskets and than silicone it up.

Yes - and if it were me, I'd maybe get an O-ring on the outside of the bucket between the bucket and and the fitting. What size? I'd imagine the larger the fitting the more difficult to seal up.

As a direct answer, no PVC glue will not work on a polyethylene bucket. Not many glues will stick to bucket plastic. Mechanical connections like the bulkhead ideas are probably better. Good Luck!

Hah! Found one of these laying around. Stainless bulkhead fitting. 3/4" FPT both sides for connection.

OK my bad,, I was kicking around a Dutch bucket set up for maters, you put a hole in the bucket about 2 inches up from the bottom put the uni seal goes in hole and a piece of 1/2 inch pipe with a 90 on each end one inside one out side of the bucket. The water flows in from he top around the plant and trickles down through the roots and pearlite untill it fills up the bottom of the bucket to the height of the hole with fitting Then drains in to a return line back to a sump and then re pumped back through the system. The ui seal is what would make it easy ,but I was wondering how to not use it, ( spend money). Looks like I have to spend the money, thanks guys

I did something like you are talking about when I was teaching shop. I hung a 10 foot piece of gutter on a chain link fence with maybe 1/8 inch of slope. I put a small hole at the lower end so that it would drip into a 5 gallon bucket. For the supply side I wired a 5 gallon bucket to the fence with a hose bib attached.https://www.cbsbahamas.com/pd/bk-103-014-proline-heavy-duty-brass-hose-bibb-3-4-in-mpt-x-3-4-in-mht/62887 Illustration purposes only, seams high price but you can thread a nut on the back side to attach it to the bucket. Planted bib lettuce and tomatoes in a vermiculite / perlite mix. Filled the upper bucket with Miracle Grow and adjusted the hose bib to drip all day. it would drain into the lower bucket and simple poured it back into the upper bucket the next day. Repeat every day. Add more Miracle grow as needed to keep 4-5 gallons in the system.

You can get a lot of plants in 10 feet of space.

My plan was to add a zig zag of gutters to the 6 foot fence but I left teaching before I got to it. The city kids were amazed that you could grow you own food.

Gorilla Glue. Amazing stuff. Readily available and inexpensive. I have use it for many things including glueing 5-10 pound stone back into position on the exterior of a house for shits and giggles. That was several years ago. Still strong. I reckon that may qualify me for the Hillbilly Of The Year Award.
