I was on Kubotas site today and noticed the engine specs for the BX23S are different? My book says my tractors gross engine HP is 23 HP for the D902 engine. The website says 21.6 for the D902. What gives?

This came up in a thread a little while ago (month or 2?). Maybe you can find it.

I think all/most of the subcompacts and compacts had HP ratings decreased on the web site.

Don't recall what the reasoning was.

Ill try to find it.
I was just wondering if there was a change or have I just been misled all this time?

hmm.. google 'kubota d902 specs' and 1st hit, from downunder, say 20.4 !
It's probably how they are tested...
heck up here small engines go by CC NOT HP !!,have for 1-2 decades.

As you know, Kubota's are sold world wide. Often in WSM's, wiring diagrams will show features like brake light switches which do not exist on North American tractors. Engine power rating test procedures vary around the world.

There are several common methods of rating diesel engines. It is not unusual to see five differing power output ratings for the same engine model. Ratings may be performed to “DIN”, “SAE” or JIS (three governing bodies) standards. . Further, testing procedures are constantly being revised to try and more accurately represent real world conditions.

Finding power differences in the literature is not surprising depending upon where the testing was done, to what standard and when.

First thought here...why does it matter?

OK I get it, we just like to know! :D

But I can tell you that with my BX2200, with foam filled tires and the mower deck hanging under it, I run out of traction when pulling my 5x8 dump trailer, loaded with a ton and a half or more dirt, before I run out of power.

So your question is more intellectual curiosity than practical from where I stand.

No problem with that...

When I spend $23,000 for a 23 HP machine and then later im told ...well its really only 21 HP...Yeah I want to know why! Wouldn't any normal person?

Perhaps so.

But the point I was trying to make is that it probably makes no practical difference whether a BX has 21 or 23 HP. The exception would be if you were using something requiring highest possible PTO HP.

Not sure if the recommended size implements for a BX will max out the BX PTO or not...

Anyone fork out $82,340(or more) for a new truck and ACTUALLY GET the MPG 'they' said and posted ???

HP numbers vary according to how 'they' test and there is no ONE universally accepted and used standard.

If 'they' did then WE could truly compare apples to oranges...and 'they' don't want that !!

HP has little meaning for me. I'm concerned with torque rise and maximum torque which is what a diesel is all about anyway.

If I spent 82 grand on a truck, my next visit would be to a shrink. Nothing on 4 wheels worth 82 grand in my world

I get better than the advertised MPG in my car but then MPG is based solely on driving habits.
