I split my L3400 HST to replace the pto cam(dog) clutch. I'm putting it back together and am struggling to get the coupler that connects the main shaft (just below the pto cam clutch) to line up during re-joining. It's tight splines with tight tolerances. Does anyone have experience and know how to get the coupler on?

Thanks

Walt

Around the coupler.
Are you moving the the front to the rear or the rear to the front?

Depends on you're setup.
I put them back together till the splines touch the shaft, then a couple wiggles on the rear will pop it into place, it's a very small movement normally.
Had one that put up a little fight, just jacked one tire off the ground and little tire spin lined it right up.

Thanks so much!

I have the rear on blocks and the front on a floor jack. I might can get some wiggle in the rear. If not I'll try jacking on rear wheel.

So with this method no need for the string on the coupler correct?

Yep, no string needed!
