Pulling logs

Does anyone have a recommended setup for pulling logs out of the woods? Chain around log connected to shackle on tractor? Choker cable?

GreensvilleJay is right on. I have a rear pallet fork with a shackle that I chain up to, lift and go.

If you dont want to use the 3pt make or pick up a nose piece, what it done is let the end of the log ride over the ground and not dig in, which can cause a real tightening of mr. sphincter trust me.
Something like this, but if you have some scrap and can weld,,, you got it made. In my mide this is way out of line, or find an old car hood they work real good!

Thanks for the link. That wouldn't take much time to fabricate and looks like a simple solution. I will just need to check and see what scrap I have laying around.

I run a Norwood Loghog and love it. Hauled many many logs with it. Good for large longs, not so good for many small logs at once. for that I use my 3P pallet forks.....

Since it’s only money, if you plan on milling the logs yourself, or just don’t want to drag the logs in the dirt (since that’s a little rough on the cut to g tools later on), a log arch is an option. I know the fellow that initially designed the LogRite log arches.

I bought a Small wood Lot three point grapple. Works Great! Never have to get off the tractor, keeps 95% of the log clean and pulls from the draw bar. One of the best three point attachments I’ve purchased.

I think a 3pt logging winch would be pretty awesome. I demoed a Hudson…I’ll own one eventually. Until then I use a 3pt receiver with chain hooks on my B / small wagon. For the MX I took it up a notch. (Hat tip to Ken’s hooks )

It really depends. For my b2601 and our hills a 3pt winch is the way to go...some day! For now I use the grab hook and chains to grab logs up to maybe 40 ft off my trails and pull the logs. I am cutting for firewood so I pull enough for 4-6x 16" pieces and cut the log and set it aside for my grapple, then pull the rest of the log (rinse and repeat). A winch would be more efficient, but it beats the daylights out of cut 'n carry from where I fell the tree to the trail.

I don’t remember the exact location, but I visited them somewhere just north and maybe a little west of herkimer, Ny (In laws leave east of there about 1.5 hours east of there). They were really nice. Set some logs up in their lot and let me play with their tractor and winch…I am not sure whether I want hydro or PTO. Any thoughts?

I keep it simple, I have a grab hook on my homemade 3ph trailer mover and a short 3/8 chain with a slip hook from H.F. that I choke the log with and then hook into the grab hook. It is only limited by the small lifting height on my b7100. Of course I'm only using it for firewood but it gets the front of the log off the ground I'll try and get a picture up later

Yea, their 10 miles from me great folks, but I got this one in Vermont barely used. This is PTO and I think once I had to up the RPM from 1000 to move a big Maple stick. It pulls nice, steady and safety.

I was thinking of getting one of these. Do you think it's compatible with the quick hitch? I would prefer not to take that off to put this on.
