PTO shield info — PSA

Last week there was a great discussion on new tractors and new to tractor owners. One of the big discussions was around PTO shaft safety. When I purchased a second tractor (used L4400HST 4WD) for hunting land it came with a bush hog, finish mower, spreader and auger. None of these had a functional PTO shield. I will reluctantly admit it have used them all without the same, mainly because the shields are more than just buying a new shaft, and getting one that fits is a giant pain.

I found a place online out of New York called the New York center for agricultural medicine and health that has a PTO shield program with Bare Co They are great quality, easy as pie to fit and take 5 minutes to install....I now have 4 of them. They are between $61-$97 shipped to you, depending on the size you need. I have no affiliation with them..I’m in Alabama, but I wanted to share the information with everyone here, in case cost or sizing is keeping you from purchasing a needed PTO shield....

I have one of the Bare brand shields and it is great. They use a mechanism for the disconnect that does not require any tools to get it loose. Starts out pretty hard to flip the levers but gets easier after a few uses.

That may be true. The deal with this particular one is its simple as pie to order the right one. It comes with all the sizes you may need and you just snap it together. Further, as @Russell King states, snap it on and off, no tools but your fingers. So no need trying to find the ‘right one’ for your PTO shaft.

It’s about safety so please post the link to the company you prefer here so folks have another option. The more choices the better.
