I recently purchased a quick hitch adapter for the back of my Kubota L3301 and overall I’m very happy with it.
the issue I’ve run into is the items that have the shorter PTO shafts (chipper & tiller) don’t have enough shaft overlap to run safely. Looking around on the internet for replacement shafts, Ive seen a few ads for PTO shaft extenders that attach to the tractors PTO shaft that are about 6” long.
Although it’s a cheaper option, it just doesn’t seem like moving the U joint back that distance is a good idea to me.
Am I being overly cautious? Or would an extender be a reasonable alternative to a new PTO shaft.

It can’t be much worse than installation of an over-running clutch that fits onto the PTO. I ran one of those on my 9N Ford for decades without any trouble at all.

If it’s just a couple of shafts that are short: a good machine shop with driveline repair parts can put a longer shaft on one end for a better overlap.
Or you can also buy the proper shaft itself and do your own repairs.

My brother runs one on his Pasquali tractor for a few years with no issues. His is not an extender but a convertor as Pasquali run a non-standard PTO spline. That being said it does add about 8 inches to the PTO length.

Pto shaft on the tiller was a little short after installing Pat’s QA. Used a 75hp overriding Clutch. Like the overriding clutch on the rotary cutters. Newer tractors can brake the pto when switched off. Maybe I don’t appreciate the brake for high inertia loads as the older tractors had built in overriding clutch.
