I have a 1992 L2650 with a L2052 front mount blower. The tractor has a two speed pto option, and I am wondering/thinking the blower is to be ran in the 1000 rpm position? Hate to admit it, but I have been using the 540 speed for a while, and frankly although it blows fine, it doesn't throw the snow real far. It was like a light bulb went off today, and I realized perhaps it is supposed to operate at the higher speed? I looked in manual, as well as tried to search online, and was unable to find anything that said what rpm to actually run the blower at.

Real easy to tell.
Rotate the input shaft and count the rotations of the blower.
If it takes 2 turns of the input shaft to turn the blower 1 turn then the PTO should be set to 540rpm
If it takes 4 turns of the input shaft to turn the blower 1 turn then the PTO should be set to 1000rpm

For those wondering?????
The Rear PTO setting on this series of L tractors sets the mid PTO speed
Rear PTO 540rpm = Mid PTO 1080rpm
Rear PTO 1000rpm = Mid PTO 2000rpm

I do believe it's a 4 to 1 gear box on that model, which would mean that it needs to be run in the rear 1000rpm, mid 2000rpm setting.

Good information wrt to PTO operation. I will file that away and hope it stays where I put it....

I would think the manual for the blower would specify PTO speed. Or am I expecting too much?

Some of the older blowers either didn't have a operators manual or they were both a rear mount (540rpm) and front mount (1080rpm and 2000rpm) models that just added the reduction box and the manuals are very vague on what RPM to run them at.

I can't find a operators manual for that model.

So I just came in from checking it out. Working alone, I was able to turn the impeller to where the red warning label was straight up on the input shaft plastic covering. One full turn of the impeller, sure seems to be three turns of the input shaft, assuming the term input shaft means the pto shaft going into the gear box. Definitely not two nor four. I tried it numerous times with the same result. I went and blew with it for a bit, and tried again with the same results. One full turn on impeller was three turns on at least the plastic covering on the input shaft. Also, for what it's worth, I called two different locations of our local Kubota dealer, and that's where I actually bought the tractor. The first service guy told me that it was to be ran at 540. When I asked him what the 1000 speed was for, he said it was for rear pto equipment that required 1000 rpm. I asked for an example of what that would be on a 29 hp tractor. His example was an 8 foot heavy duty brush hog. When I questioned that, and said no way would it run that, he became somewhat frustrated and said that's what it is for. I then called another location of the same dealer. That service guy was very helpful and knowledgeable about the older models like my 1992. He said "back then", guys would run them at the higher speeds, but you need to be more careful with it, that the chain is spinning real fast at that speed. I asked him too about what that 1000 rpm position was for. His explanation was that it was made also for the European market, and they had equipment designed to run at that speed. Assuming he is correct, that would explain the two speed. Even if not correct, he was much more reassuring that the first guy that said it was for an 8 foot brush hog. I am confused about the what appears to be the three to one ration of input shaft to one turn of the impeller.

I do have the operators and parts manual for the L2052 blower, the part number for the manual is 70060-03843. I just cant see anywhere in it where it says what pto speed to operate the blower at.

Wow! I stand corrected! I just now found a small spot in manual where it does say to use the tractor's 1000 RPM mid pto speed. Somehow I missed that each and every time I looked in this manual, which admittedly wasn't often. Thanks for the replies, and though I just registered on this site, I look forward in the future to following and learning.
