PTO Quick Attach?

I did a search and came up dry.

My hand strength is not what it once was. Attaching and detaching the PTO shaft on my Landpride Brushhog is a challenge. It has the little pin you must push and, gosh darn it, it's hard to do.

I see some aftermarket connectors going for about $400. Is there any more reasonable options to make things a little easier?

I thought I saw a Messicks video that showed a LP quick hitch with a quick connect pto about a year ago. I think he was at a Kubota show. I can't find it now.

I'd start by removing the PTO shaft and lubricating the pin to make it easy to move again. It shouldn't be hard to press.

1 ) buy another tractor JUST for bushogging.....
2) buy a 4" 'quickgrip', use it to depress the ball, frees up both hands to slide PTO off.on

#2 works and is maybr $5 ?, #1 a tad more expensive ....

One thing I have done to help dad and myself with the PTO shafts is spray them with WD PTFE Dry Lube every time we connect them and disconnect them. It has kept the new PTO shaft connectors from rusting making the push button easier to operate (one has a collar) and the older ones have started loosening up and become easier to operate also.

I'd start by removing the PTO shaft and lubricating the pin to make it easy to move again. It shouldn't be hard to press.

I'll give it a try. I believe the pin spring is very strong.

Unless I'm doing it wrong, I need to reach through the 3 point hook up, get the tip of a finger on the pin and depress. Not an easy task. Then, wrestle the PTO Shaft on or off. I sound like a wimp but its a fight every time ( yesterday I was a sweaty mess just to unhook my Brush Hog ) and it's hard on the finger tip even gloved up.

Not a good design in my book.

I think mikester's advise is good. I was unable to free up the collar type connector that came on the PHD I found on Craigslist. I removed the half shaft and soaked the connector with Mouse Milk (awesome stuff). The retractable balls had been frozen in place. The next morning everything was free. I thoroughly greased it and its been fine since then.
Lubrication is your friend. Since the implement hangs under my deck subject to the weather I grease it every time I use it.

I'll give everything a good cleaning and relube. That's the low cost way to start. It's a bugger right now.

There are days I can walk up to the tractor and hook up the PTO in less than a minute. Then there are those days, no matter what I do, QH gets in the way, spindle won't line up, fat belly gets in the way, or a dozen other things.

Yet, when you eliminate the common issues, such as a lack of lube, it is one less thing that you have to struggle with and as you pointed out, it is a relatively cheap fix.

Another helpful hint is to get the plastic safety shield out of the way by learning how to disconnect the bell end from the pto shaft so it can slide back towards the implement

I understand the frustration with pushing that pin in. Lubing that pin helped but getting rid of my land pride QH15 quick hitch and going to a Pat's quick hitch helped me more than anything. I now have much better access to the pto. Gives better access to the pto which puts me in a position with more strength to begin with to deal with connecting to the pto.
