Printer Recommendations

I'll recommend Brother, also. I've been using their MFC-J5830DW for several years now. No problems at all.

HP printers are good quality. But their software... There has been an ongoing problem with them that when on WiFi, computers can't connect to them. I have researched it and it goes back at least 15 years. In my house, we have about a dozen devices that need to print from time to time, and only about half are able to because they can see the printer on the network, but it will never connect.

Same here, I have the same connection problems. Two of the computers are identical in every way but only one will connect, I tried everything that I can think of but sneakernet is the only thing that works.

I tend to follow the buy once cry once mentality. Inkjet printers really only have a place where they are used daily, as they will dry up when they aren't. Laser printers use a dry toner and do not have this problem. They can sit unused for long periods of time and will print as good as they did the last time. My two favorite brand of laser printers are HP and Xerox, with Brother and Cannon being my most problematic. But any printer can be problematic. I would research the printers in the price range you have to spend and go with whatever one you see have the best reviews.

Ink is relatively cheap and I got some aftermarket which seems fine.

We don’t print much, but it always seems ready to go.

Another thumbs up for a Brother Laser. Trouble free for years and years.

I bought my dad an Epson 2500 back in '16, and it's still going strong (even with 2 grandkids at the university, printing freely). The ink refills are dirt cheap (10 euros to print a couple thousand B&W pages).

For the price, you can't beat it.

One thing I saw recommended was to assign a fixed IP address to the printer. I tried it, and it fixed the connection for one computer, but not the others.

Easy to do, and free, so it's worth a shot.

A few things that you might/might not have tried. Note: this is probably a device/computer issue not a printer issue.

Validate that the network driver version is the same if they are computers. If they are the same, delete the driver and reinstall it if you know how. Otherwise, try deleting the network connection and reconnect it.

Yes, I know it's a tractor forum. However I DO value input from the people on here a lot more than the reviews found on the net. Looking for a print / copy / scan color printer for home use. I'm FED UP with HP and their obscene ink prices and want another brand. I've had an HP8610 for a while and although the quality is fine, the genuine HP ink cartridges cost as much as some new printers.

Have you signed up for HP instant ink program? I bought HP because of the program. I pay $4/month for enough ink for 100 pages. HP monitors my ink levels when I’m online and sends me new cartilages when they get to a certain level. I never run out, all for $4 each month. They also have different prices for people who want to print more pages.

One of the problems I have had with HP printers is that they stop supporting the software for the printer. When I got a new computer, I needed the software to use it, but the software was no longer on the HP download website. I was lucky enough to take it off of another computer I have. I buy outdated cartridges on eBay and a cartridge usually lasts a year or more. I print out the parts pages for all the "accessory" items I have for my Kubota. I have an HP P2055 LaserJet printer I inherited from my brother when he passed away a few years ago. It is the best printer that I have ever had. I also have an HP Office Jet Pro 8600 that I only use for printing pages in color. It is a cartridge hog.

Definitely another Brother guy here, and I won't do inkjets for home use ever again.

Now, work is a different story with our large-format printers. We'll only use HP inkjets and no longer use anything toner-based. The toner-based units are cheaper per page, but once you factor in down time and maintenance contracts, the HP inkjets are more reliable, cheaper and have a better print quality.
