Pricing and raising the price after you pay?????

I was just quoted prices for Woods backhoe, subframe and hydraulics with a 60 -90 day window for delivery. But they are saying if the price goes up before it arrives (after I pay for it), I have to pay the updated price??????
Has anyone heard that disclaimer about woods or Kubota? How could they do that after I pay for it. When it is written up, ordered and payed for, that makes it a contract doesn't it?

I would ask for evidence that the dealer is unable to get the price locked in once they submit the order. Is the dealer simply trying to maximize their profit? If the manufacturer is telling the dealer the same thing, i.e. that the price isn't fixed until the items are built and ready to ship then it seems fair that you're subject to the same uncertainty.

@SDT states " Yes, a valid contract is enforceable but doing so is rarely worth the time and expense and dealers know such."

Absolutely true, and it goes both ways. So many bend under the slightest intimidation from various entities. If you enjoy conflict and aren't easily intimidated it's amazing what you can brush off.

No doubt, sales contract has terms therein covering price increases.

Kubota Corporate does not allow "price lock ins" anymore. Unless the machine is on our lot, at that point we can "price lock". Someone else said it. The dealer would eat the price increase if we locked in the price. A down payment is just a payment to hold the machine. That does NOT lock the price. You have the option to opt out if the price increases. Its the nature of life and basically anywhere you go dealer wise. Car, truck, tractor, atv, utv. You name it. Production and material cost. Thats the world we live in now a days.

I said good luck with that. I'm willing wait two years to see if there is a recession and find which dealer is willing to drop their pants wanting my money.

I would normally agree with you, however, in the current market, manufacturers are shrinking production and even with recession level demand, there’s still not enough supply and those deals/incentives are not likely to return anytime soon, or at least until dealers lots are full of inventory that have been sitting for a few months without moving. That’s not gonna happen anytime soon.

The manufacturers are making more money now, selling fewer vehicles. The only way things change, is if manufacturers begin to lose market share and decide they need to increase production and not artificially suppress it, which is what is happening now.

That’s not gonna happen anytime soon.

Funny - I see a lot of brand new gas guzzling GMC trucks and SUVs sitting at the dealership. We want a plug in hybrid and there are none to be found in Ontario. Used ones are selling for more than new right now.

The interesting thing is across the boarder in Buffalo there are 5 brand new ones I want sitting on the dealers lots and $20K cheap than what I can buy them for.

IMHO These "shortages" are complete BS and companies are gouging us where they can. I hope to see a reckoning soon. Profiteers suck.

I tried to buy a 2WD Ranger, just before the AmrChin came to town...., There are ONLY 6 types of Rangers here in Canada, all 4WD. There were 3 or 4 on the lot, I said ,no 2WD, sales guy was dumbfounded....
I looked at Buffalo/Niagara Falls lots...saw 3 that I liked.....Even with the exchange and duties and BS, it was the truck I wanted....
Called the Feds to see if I could import the truck..... NO, NOT allowed...something like ' not a model sold in Canada, so it can't be imported... or such BS, .sigh, so much for 'Free trade'.....
meanwhile it was EASY to get the '81 Chevy pickup across the river..... go figure ???

I have some experience with selling insurance to Dealers that import autos from Canada to Michigan. The car has to sit in a bonded lot for 30 days before it can get the clearance to get a Michigan title. Also not an issue anymore with digital dashboards but in the "old days" with mechanical speedometers they had to be converted from metric to Imperial as well. Some models need the TPMS converted to a frequency that is different than used in Canada.

Yup I generally do. And I view a major recession or worse is here. been waiting a few years and the homestead major projects are piling up while I do. Will see how it goes and look around.. the issue from a dealer perspective for me is only 1 dealer within 2 hours then the next set of dealers are over 5 or 6 hours away and a few mountain passes. I don’t know how how far guy’s typically go to a dealership and then any post purchase maintenance or dealer based work considerations. 10 hr round trips towing across CO seems less than ideal… but it sounds like my closer dealer is not great if other guys are still at least getting a price commitment. I get financing jumping around since that’s a bank behind it but was at least hoping I knew what I would be in for on the purchased product price after waiting a year or more. Ain’t like I could expect them to magically drop the price if the tractor market collapses while I‘m waiting to take delivery

Don't think many, if any, are getting a price commitment, and if they do I would wonder if it will really be honored as this is coming directly from Kubota. My dealer showed me a bulletin from Kubota that pretty clearly stated that Kubota would not price protect any orders after 12/31, at which time price protection on any existing orders would expire as well.

Question im going to struggle with, is will any future recession driven incentives at some point in the future offset coming price increases to net me out in any better position than if I were to take the tractor I have had on order for the past 12 months when it (supposedly) shows up in a few months.

Please provide a source. I bet that's your dealers BS rules.

I put down $500 deposit back in March to "lock in a price" on SVL75-2 that had up to a 5 month wait from the Georgia factory. Dealers knew that Kubota was going to have price increase on the CTL's by 4% April 1st, 2022.

I put down $500 deposit back in March to "lock in a price" on SVL75-2 that had up to a 5 month wait from the Georgia factory. Dealers knew that Kubota was going to have price increase on the CTL's by 4% April 1st, 2022.
Correct at the beginning of the year (2022) they still did price lock ins. Coming to the new year (2023) there are no price locks. Not sure how you want a source. Talk to Kubota corporate. Around November/December. Or simply your dealer could lock you in at a price, little do you know thats a 15%-30% cushion to back them incase of a price increase.

Ok, spoke with my buddy.
The source is the December 23rd end of year review(youtube video exclusive to Kubota employees) and Kubota corporate email that was sent mid December to dealers.

**The price protection is no longer offered on 2023 products.**

Before you the customer orders something that the dealer doesn't have, Ask the dealer if they already have them on order, if that piece of equipment is already on order, the dealer should honor the price quote, but it's not guaranteed...

You as the customer can ask for your deposit back and walk away if you choose too.

If you order something that dealer didn't have already allocated for a future order/replacement order, you can expect up to a 4 to 6% price increase.

Caution to those currently buying equipment, some dealers/salesman/woman are already claiming there is an increase whether or not the price increased regardless.

Get your price quotes from multiple dealers, decide what deal you like, inform dealer that you want to order, and let them know upfront if price increases, the deal is void, write that on the order invoice when you put down a deposit, and verbally tell them you will order from another dealer if they can't honor thier prices, leave negative reviews.
