Anyone using Predator motors from Harbor Freight? I am using a 6.6 hp Predator on my home made log splitter and am very happy with it. It started first pull out of the box. I have a 1979 Troy Bilt 8 hp Horse model roto tiller (original owner) that needs a motor replacement.( 8 hp Brigs and Stratton). Would like to use a Predator 8 hp model. Any thoughts? Thanks.

No experience with them myself, but quite a few folks here on OTT have used them for various replacements.

I have there super quiet 9000w generator.
And believe me it is super quiet runs like a top. When you shut it off, it closes a valve in the fuel line. The carb runs Dry !!!
Thoses chinese are smart people.

Put it in. If you don't care about patents and copyright.

Chinese make decent copies of Briggs, Honda, and Kohler.

Another vote for them. They're my go-to when a replacement engine is called for. Have two in service at the moment, a 13hp E-start on a snow blower and a 6(?) hp on a pressure washer. Start easy and run well.

Although I don't own anything with this brand of motor on it, I have read good reviews. I don't believe I would hesitate to buy one. We live on a river that the water is 90% clear running water and I'm looking at the Predator 2" semi-trash pump for irrigation purposes. It costs $289, and that would work for me.

They're probably like Holzforma saws. The patents have expired, so they can legally copy them.

I replaced the motor on my troy built horse with one ( never lend your toys out). And to honest I believe you can take honda parts and do a direct replacement for most of the motor. If I remember to turn on the kill switch it starts 2nd pull,,,,, don't ask about the kill switch,,, The only thing I had to do was disable the low oil switch, because at a certain angle the oil runs to the back of the crank case and the switch shuts it down, so I check oil often, also it says not to use E 85 gas. But for 89 bucks,, it was worth every penny so far

I've used the Chinese Honda Clones for years. I KNOW the carbs fit fine ! Also the 2:1 reduction unit fit purrfectly on the 9HP clone !

I have many 6.5 HP and 13 HP Predator motors around here on the farm running bucket lifts, water pumps log splitters, buzz saws, air compressors and a couple small generators. I haven't had any issue with any one of them. All get the oil change once a year and run non ethanol gas in them. I run 20W-50W Synthetic oil in them. Several of them have a lot of hours on them.

I've have used several, they work really well!
I have a Cub Cadet walk behind mower with a 'Powermore 382 cc engine' (basically a Honda Clone). It has been flawless. Actually starts easier than any other engine I have (including Honda and Yamaha engines on generators).

Just because something is of Chinese manufacture doesn't mean it is junk. IF built to reasonable specs...they can perform just a well as products made elsewhere.
