anyone out there running any Land Pride Post Hole Diggers..

I'm looking at either the PD15 or the PD25 for a Kubota L4060...not sure which post hole model is most fit for the L4060.

PD15 says 20-40hp and PD25 says 25-55. One of things I dont like about the PD15 is you can only get a 6,9 or 12" Auger....

I plan to put in several 6x6 posts and possible few larger -- with the PD25 you can get a 6,9,12,15,18 or 24" auger...

I'm thinking at least 12" but less than 24" -- any recommendations on a good general size..?

I'm running an SA20 skid steer style hydraulic on my FEL, allows for downpressure, good control, safer, and can reverse it when needed. I've dug 9", but can get anything up to tree sized. it turns a little slower, but works fine. I do 4 foot deep and have done well over 50 holes with it. always hated PTO driven ones, did it for years with a smaller tractor, never again. will be using it again in the next few weeks for about 30 more holes.

That would be a lot easier to put on to a tractor as the rear three point and PTO type is such a pain.
All he would have to do is make sure he got a good third function setup for the FEL or long hoses to reach the rear remotes. ;)

yeah, I love the third function, although I'm going to get the lever quick coupler to make it easier, even after bled down, if it sits for a bit of time and gets a touch warmer, it can be very difficult to attach. I don't like cracking lines just to get a quick coupler to connect....but usually it's quick and painless.

I use the 6" and the 12" ones the most, 12" for planting trees and 6" for setting posts, even 6x6. I prefer to shave out a bigger hole so that it lines up better than to deal with a large hole in the wrong place.

My post hole digger is one of my most loaned out implement... since it's used so infrequently. The only other bit I have is 8 or 9"... I can not handle the larger ones.

TEG -- you using a three point mounted post hole digger?

I watched some you tube videos last night of the FEL mounted ones - may just be my inexperience, but the 3 pt ones sure look easier to use...

three point only work well in good ground conditions. I'll give you an extremely unsafe example. down in north texas at another property I owned, we were fencing, we had a 30 horse tractor with a 3 point ph digger digging 9" holes. this ground isn't rocky at all. just hard. after attempting to dig one hole for pipe fencing and making it next to no distance due to lack of any down pressure we came up with an idea. it involved a very strong ratchet strap setup (4") and a 20' piece of large diameter pipe for leverage, I figured I had it for something else, but should provide ample leverage to push it down into the ground with minimal effort on my part. my buddy and I were doing it, obviously not wanting to get tangled in the PTO was the main goal, so here I am at close to 300 lbs hanging every ounce of it on a 20 foot pole and it took close to 2 minutes to get a hole dug because the ground is so hard there. fast forward a few weeks later I had my own tractor and had decided the skid style was the way to go (especially knowing I wanted a skid in the future anyway) in the amount of time it took me to dig 1 full depth hole before, using the front end loader auger, I had dug 15 holes and was done with my fencing project for making holes, with no effort by comparison. ground conditions were identical. being able to put serious weight on it and not having to worry about safety of anyone on top of being able to reverse it if you got snagged on something was well worth it.

so the snagging part has happened before where it hit a large rock and just stopped spinning and killed the tractor (talking 3 point now) now obviously starting the tractor wasn't an issue, but now this auger is screwed under this rock, so just pulling it out isn't an option....you can't reverse a pto, at least I've never seen one. so we had to break out a big wrench and cheater pipe to pull it out. that was a pain in the ass.

problem 2, snagging something and the tractor not just dying. we were using a larger tractor at a family members house, I'll say a 80 horse or so. weights on the front etc. used for brush hogging mostly. using his 3 point ph auger, we went to setting up some cross fencing and hit yet another massive rock. at just under PTO speed when it caught, the auger screwed itself in so hard it violently lifted the front of this tractor several feet off the ground before I could kill the pto.....my hand was right there on it....that's how fast it happened. now I'm in a big wheelie position on this big tractor that was in a very awkward place, the sheer pin didn't pop, we replaced it obviously. but again, get out a wrench and a cheater, this one sucked because the tractor had kind of tweaked the auger. this is why I chose to spend just a little more on the FEL style.

The HD25 ssqa work very well on a B3200 with a 3rd function. Easy to instal and remove. 3 point are pita.

Something to consider, is the PD35. It has lower gearing and is waaaaay more implement than the PD25.:) But then it is more money also.:(

Should consider the down pressure kit also. Pretty much makes the PHD unstoppable as far as ANY hard ground.

People complain about PTO PHDs all the time. But if you look at what they are using and how they use them, it's not a wonder at all all the problems that they have.

I have over $3500 in my PD35 setup, all the different sized augers and the down pressure kit. I know how to use it and have had ZERO issues of any since I added the down pressure kit. I can drill a 24" hole full depth (48"deep) in the hardest grand in less than 2 minutes, and that is at an idol.

People are always complaining about how hard they are to hitch and unhitch, again all because they do it about the most difficult way that is possible, what do they expect? I can have mine on or off in less than 6 minutes and that is taking my time.

None of this stuff is that hard as long as you have the right equipment for the job and know how to use it.

Good luck with your choices. ;)

Mt View -- whats required for the down pressure kit ? I wasnt adding any valves on this machine as I plan to run all 3pt stuff....would I need a rear valve for the down pressure kit ?

You need a valve and a separate return to tank port.

Are you doing no grading with this tractor? I know you have your big tractor, but man the smaller ones sure are good for clean up tractors. ;)
