I have a feeling that I know the answer to the below question but just want to verify it.
I am looking at putting some concrete peirs in for a deck foundation as well as possibly for a small pole shed for my tractor and attachments storage. I would like to install them below the frost line so the frost has less of a tendency to want to push them up. Around here that depth is anywhere 6-8 feet depending on the winter. I know nothing about post hole diggers but It seems that most post hole diggers only go to around 3 feet depth. Can an extention be used to get deeper holes.
The tractor that would be used is a L2501 with 19 hp at the pto.

Yes extensions can be used, however, the problem arises when you need to lift, and disconnect/remove the extension whilst retaining the auger. So you either buy/build a longer frame and longer pto shaft, or make something to go across at ground level to clamp and hold the top of your auger shaft while you add or remove extensions. I want to do something similar with multiple extensions and get down to the relatively shallow water table, but haven't gotten there as yet with something that I can easily snap together/couple/uncouple/align myself quickly and easily. Think of an oil drill rig changing/adding rods, but not as elaborate!

Well thats an encouraging response. I thought the answer was going to be that using an extention is not really advised. Thanks

I have seen extensions for bigger hydraulic drive augers on bobcats/excavators etc. I have them for my small petrol powered digger, they came with the unit.

I am making my own for my tractor, but one has to be aware of the forces involved with a reduction gearbox and things can screw and go bad very easily. Be careful. If there is anyone in your area doing road sign or road side rail installation, they may have a tractor or utility with hydraulic augur drive with extensions for going deep for the install of these, ring them for a price to come and put some holes down at your place.

I just talked to a local contractor i know and he has a post hole auger for his skid steer but for what I want to do, he suggested to use screw piles. They can be sunk well below the frost line and are ready to use instantly and with the price of concrete around this area,($250 per yard plus $275 delivery to my place) they would be cheaper. He also has the attachment to installs them. Looks like I'll be going this route. Thanks for the input guys.
