bought a woods 1120 post hole digger , hooked it up today and it seemed to dig fine untill it was time to lift up. it wanted to bend the wishbone bracket hooked to my lift arms. any idea what im doing wrong. bought it used with no manual. any help is appreciated. thanks guys

Did it bind on a rock/root? Will it still spin freely?
Are you spinning as you lift? Or is the pto off as you spin?
PH diggers should be operating at about 1200 engine rpm's and raised/lowered in the hole about every six inches of digging depth so auger doesn't cork-screw into soil getting auger STUCK. Since it's stuck one needs to use large pipe wrench to turn auger in reverse direction to free auger.

spins and digs down no problem, when pulling it out, it just wants to bend the bracket, like pulling a wishbone. Noticed ones i saw had a tubular design for strength, this one is just flat stock. Guys at the local dealer said its small for my tractor. It came off a b series and have a l2900. Appreciate the responses guys.
I'll repeat if operated correctly digging soil only(no roots or rocks) then auger should never get STUCK.
Looks like it should be a tubular arch. Maybe a homemade replacement?

ended buying a new one from tsc. sitting side by side with the woods 1120, the woods looks like a toy. really didnt know too much about em when i picked the 1120 from someone.new one fits my tractor so much better and works like a charm. we dont have texas sand here in the northeast, we call rocks and roots soil.lol thanks for the help guys appreciate it!
Woods make good equipment. Probably too small for your machine. Sell it to someone with the correct size tractor. What Tx Jim said, it doesn't matter what you're digging in, sand, rock, clay or anything else if you get stuck you're not cleaning the auger soon enough.

Thanks for back up. Getting an auger loose that has corkscrewed in the soil will only take a very few times to change PHD operators hole digging procedures!!!

Tx Jim, some things you have to learn first hand. And when you do it stays with you!
We have a clay here you could make pottery from. If you don't clean your auger every few inches you'll spend most of your time with a pipe wrench!!
