Hi All, just reading through and noticed that the blowers need to be in sync when replacing shear bolts. How do you know how to Sync A B2781B blower augers. Should they be set up same or offset ? I may have just put new sheart bolt in and not thought of the sync of blades as seems to not throw as fast and far. I will port phot of my unit once I fix

Many blowers require 180 degrees. You should consult your owner's manual.

I broke a shear pin a couple years ago, and couldn't recall either. I've got it correctly on my BX2750D.

With fingers crossed, and knocking on my wooden head, I haven't broken a shear pin in a few years. ;)

You would normally want them 180* out. ie: NOT a mirror image. (like all the pix in this thread)
The impeller won't be able to gobble up any amount of snow being force fed like that. (*maybe small amounts, )so if you are in N. Florida, you might be OK)

I always clock them 180* out no matter what brand or model I am using.

YMMV

2017 B2782B with the left auger arm, as viewed from front as in picture, bent a bit away from the gearbox, from grabbing a wood block years ago. Couldn't straighten it without taking it apart or with my available tools so left it as is, doesn't seem to hamper it's operation at all.

Here’s my BX5450. No problems at all, and I have really used it a lot over the last 6 years.

For those commenting on the 'sync' of the augers, I see from the pics that most of these blowers have a sticker inside, upper left corner. This sticker indicates the expected auger position. Mine says "one up, one down" and has a picture

Is your blower working well @Snowman7?
Yep, now that winter is probably done, lol. All warranty work. Nobody was able to tell me why the impeller shear bolt failed. When the season is over I plan on taking that bolt out and making sure that fan spins freely. I will probably put never seize on that shaft.

I am probably going to wait until mid April to swap the blower and loader. We have had some huge dumps in April over the years.

If you purchase some Fluid Film, readily available and any NAPA store for about $10 dollars you will have better success. Best find I have made in years. I put it on everything that needs lubrication

Yes it's really good stuff that Fluid Film, except it hates leaving the can in really cold conditions.

I live in the Mountains of Maine and we have some serious cold. I apply Fluid Film on mild days, and everything works like a dream....

We still haven't heard back from the original poster as to what blower problems he was investigating...
Please DO tell.

My fan has oilite bearings which you only add oil if anything. I would think that yours has the same.

The shear bolt failed because you ran over something, like a small rock, newspaper, that lodged and stop the blade long enough for it to shear. That is what you want. just replace it, along with the washer. Don't use a loc nut, just the normal 1/2 inch nut and bolt. Make sure you purchase the correct shear bolt for your snowblower. There is a different shear bolt for the outside and the inside fan. The are about 2 to 3 dollars each. I purchase 10 for 30 dollars, and have had to replace the one on the fan, and the outside. My snowblower is the BX2816. It is the same shear bolt for a lot of Kubota snowblowers.

No locknut is just asking for trouble, imo. Why suggest that? Overtightening the shear bolt nuts to make sure the bolt remains in place can cause early bolt shearing. I ALWAYS lock washer or nylon locknut the shear bolts, and tighten snugly not too tight.
Without a lock nut or washer those shear bolt nuts would have loosened off regularly, on my machine anyway.

Here is mine. I think driveline angles need to be looked at too. I think in my 15 or so of blowing snow I have sheared 2 pins. Both on a BX blower. One was probably a rock and the other was a sucked up a piece of 2" PVC pipe. Never broke on one the Woodmax.

When you shear the bolt, the lock nut is then free to release. The lock washer actually helps to pull the sheared bolt away from the shaft. You may have to use a small punch to knock the bolt out however. Maybe a little wrench turning to help it along. I'm done.
