Added a plate to the deck discharge more so to reduce the width by a foot than the mulching effect. Couldn’t believe how much debris was packed under the belt covers around the belts and gearbox as the mower only has 38 hours on it. Needless to say, the belt covers will not be going back on.

Belt guards are the first thing to go on any of my mower decks. When you let clippings build up, they hold moisture and rot out the spindle mount areas. Second thing to go is any and all operator presence devices. Third things are the anti-spinny chains on PTO guards. Bring on the flames!

In the fall I get leaves jammed around the deck pulleys so I took off the guards. While mowing along a fence line at a tilt, I put my foot down to help with my balance, right on top of that spinning pulley. It cut right up thru my shoe and into my foot so off to the emergency room. The next thing I did to the tractor was put the guards back on. That was about 20 years ago and my foot still has some numbness but I learned my lesson.

I just remove the guards and blow spindles off with compressed air after every few uses or after one hard use. Then reinstall. Also a great opportunity to give those spindels a shot or two of grease. Only takes 2 minutes, or about one-quarter-of-a-beer worth of time after mowing ;)

I pull the covers on the deck on my BX and blow out the clippings with compressed air after every mowing session. Can't believe how packed with clippings they get after a couple of hours of mowing.

On a $9,000 piece of equipment (new Z422) the whole mower gets blown off with my leaf blower after each use, then rinsed of dust and sand, then blow dried. This is my method of keeping a nice machine for many years! 😊 as it goes back in the shed, it looks like it’s on a showroom floor.
