Got tired of the exhaust on my Polaris Sportsman burning my leg. Picked up some exhaust wrap and hopefully this solves the issue

they do that (get hot). Same for the Ranger 800's, they run hot around the feets and on the backside. My mom has a Ranger 800 midsize. Feels nice in the winter, though.

Only downside to wrapping exhaust is that eventually the metal just rots. It doesn't rust, it just, like falls apart. May take a long time but it usually does. The wrap does something to the metal.

I had similar results on headers I wrapped years ago, the wrap caused the headers to rust out.

Yes it’s an 800. 2006 model. The wrap does great cutting down the heat. Metal was in good shape when I wrapped it and she is barn kept and rarely gets wet. I rode it for a half hour and sat on it idling for another 15 min back on the trails. Usually I’m riding with my right leg up on the front fender to get it away from the heat. I will have to add and tighten some of those metal wire ties up today but that is to be expected. On mine there is a metal heat shield around the exhaust pipes. I added the wrap over that shield and didn’t go all the way up to the heads. I guess a ceramic coating might be better but that’s a bit more than I want to invest in this machine plus the thought of trying to get all those fasteners loose keeps me awake at night

yes polaris had some issues with heat rejection back in the day. They've gotten most of that taken care of now, with better engineering. Thank goodness.

ceramic does help but it helps more when used in conjunction with the wrap. However the metal will fatigue and just rot even with ceramic coating. It doesn't really "rust" but it just rots. Hard to explain until you've seen it. I wrapped a set of turbo headers for a Ford Maverick that I built and in a few years I pulled the turbo and headers off to sell & put a NA 289 in it. Once off, I removed some of the wrap to investigate and the tubing was black and if you tap it with a screwdriver it just fell apart. Couldn't sell it like that knowing it would not work, so I sold the guy the turbo at a discount and gave him the headers for a pattern to use to build new. Dunno if he ever did anything or not-I sure hope so, because at the time there weren't many (if any) turbo headers for Ford Maverick's.
