New to the site and to tractors and I am wondering how big of a plow I can pull with my L3800. I just took delevery of a new L3800 with a FEL and put 500lbs of ballast in the tires. I am looking forward to doing a little snow removal this winter, but I can't wait to start the projects in the spring!!! Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again.

Congratulations lindbm5 for youy new L3800,

I also own a L3800 with FEL and a backhoe (BH 77). I just love it. I own a 72 in snow blower, works well with my L3800.

I'd say around the 6 foot wide mark should do just fine behind your L3800. General rule of thumb is just a tad bit wider the width of your rear tires on impliments.

Thanks, I am really excited about the tractor. I think that I was a little unclear on my first post. I am looking for a field plow, specifically a 2 bottom or a 3 bottom. I know it requires a lot of hp and weight to pull a plow and don't want to over do it on the new tractor. I may even go with a single bottom if the two bottom will be borderline.

Look in your manual. The manual for my MX4700 has a page with implement limitations. For a bottom plow it lists 16 x 2, which would be a two bottom with 16" moldboards.

Also, does your tractor have draft control on the 3 pt hitch? (an option on the MX I didn't get) If not you may not want to max out the plow size, depending on the soil you want to plow. The draft control uses the top link to raise the implement slightly when it pulls too hard. If no draft control I would stay below the max recommendation so you could more easily power through any tough spots.

Good luck and congrats on the new tractor

I know this is a different implement than you are talking about but I pull a 9 or 10 ft trail behind disc with my L 3000. Have to use 4wd but it handles it just fine.

Thanks for the input, i'll check the manual for the correct implement size, and i don't think that i have draft control on my 3pt.

The soil type and condition will play a big role.

If the ground is a fallow field then you may have to make several passes lowering each time. Not as big a bite each pass in other words.

If you are plowing your garden each year then it will be much easier.

Good luck
