Mystery Repair.

Last Year steering went in my 1999 Kubota L2500.
Turned Out it was the bottom-most retaining ring/clip that holds all the gears etc in the steering shaft came out of the groove and allowed the gears to come loose.
Fixed that.

Few Weeks ago, sector shaft broke when front wheels were stuck trying to get out of 4 feet of snow.
Had sector shaft fixed, reinstalled….worked for about 20 minutes…then went “wonky”..
Steering Felt like last year’s problem..said no way, couldn’t be, and also COULD NOT GET FROM LOW TO HIGH RANGE…sure enough after exhausting all possibilities…
I tore down to the steering box AGAIN…said retaining ring was GONE and steering shaft gears had dropped down a bit…fished out the retaining ring from the transmission with a magnet (ALSO FOUND A PIECE OF WHAT LOOKED LIKE A SECTION OF ANOTHER RETAINING CLIP??) .got gears in column back in snug, put retaining ring back in place….tack welded 2 or 3 spots below ring…no way it is coming out now.
Reassembled steering box, and everything thing else for the 3rd time in a year. Steering works great.
HERES THE KICKER!!!!
Now the clutch will not WORK. Can get tractor started, depress clutch to choose a gear, teeth are still spinnin, grind grind….Turn tractor off, put in gear, start, tractor creeps forward even with clutch pedal pushed…seems as if clutch not fully engaged.
I decided to try and adjust clutch rod, maybe its not engaging enough, the clutch rod that comes out of the transmission, without the pedal rod attached can be pushed in and out of the transmission with like ¾ inch to 1 inch movement, moved into different positions, etc… that does not seem normal. I am stumped.

Any suggestions?

So..the story continues....

I decided to adjust my clutch pedal..each increase seemed to help a little but not a whole lot...I adjusted the clutch as tight as I could to see if I could shift without grinding...workable, but something still not right. operated the tractor a bit...but is was working funny, little power in high range, stalled, then would not start, althought battery/starter seemed to be turning hard enough. Noticed there was oil/fluid leaking, quite a bit...but from where? Pulled the dipstick on the engine oil ...a gyser of fluid came squirting out....turned out to be both oil and transmission fluid coming out the engine.

So now what? Do I have a bad hydraulic seal? Could that have cause the clutch to not be operating properly? I put the clutch pedal back to spec, now to start from scratch as to why the clutch is not operating...and why there is transmission fluid running into the engine.

Any suggestions?

Replaced seals in hydraulic pump, changed tran fluid and engine oil..Tractor, clutch, everything works like a top, clutch/gears work better than they ever have in the 2 years I've owned this tractor.

thank god.
