Tomorrow morning I am going to look at a 2004 Kubota m4800SU 4x4 with 650 hrs., manual trans., one owner, quick detach L1002 loader, aftermarket canopy, seems to have good tires and be in great shape (stored indoors its whole life). Does $16,500 seem like a reasonable price? Or what price would you guys expect for a machine like this with no attachments besides the loader/bucket?

Greatly appreciate the help... as I don't have much time to do research before I go to check it out in person!

On a side note, this is the first purchase towards my dream of hopefully starting a bison ranch. I wanted to something that could "do it all" in terms of leveling out a little bit of land, running a few attachments, etc. It seems goofy to buy the tractor before the land or bison but this opportunity just popped up and the tractor seems like its super clean.

Seems like a good deal. Averaging 50 hours a year isn't a lot for a tractor.
Are any service records available? Are you sure you can deal with a manual transmission?

I've only driven hydrostatic's and shuttle shifts but I'm sure I would do fine with it. I drive manual cars at work all day, manual ATV's, and the shuttle shifts aren't too far from a manual for the most part. I do think the M4800SU has synchronized gears so I think that means you can shift on the go in forward gears without clutch once you get going in a gear?

I'll have to ask him tomorrow for service records, along with checking all the fluids and such.

Here's something to compare it to. You realize the SU model is a "plain Jane" of tractors.

Appreciate the information, I have been trying to find direct comparisons and coming up with very little. I did know that SU is the "economy" version of tractors.. but I think I could get by with this version for the startup of my operation. Does anyone know if these tractors come with CAT1 or CAT2 3 point setups? I keep seeing "CAT1/CAT2" under 3 pt specifications..

Double check the transmission.

I believe that you will find that only third and fourth gears are synchronized in SU versions.

Thanks, I’ll check it out! What other things is this tractor lacking over a non SU variant? Things like tilt steering, floor mats, arm rests, cup holder, etc?

I'm pretty sure it doesn't have power windows. :)
