]Good morning OTT, we planted our fall plots on Sunday afternoon, great time with friends and plenty of seat time.

We hunt 450 acres primarily for deer and turkeys, plenty of small game to for the youngsters.

The farmer planted soybeans this year so no fall cover crop as he will not pick them here in NC until mid late November. During years of beans we do food plots other than that he plants us 96 acres of wheat following corn, tobacco, or sorghum.

I have a spreadsheet that I use to determine the amount of see required for each plot. Once they are measured and sq. ft. entered it does the rest for you, I buy the seed and broadcast at the rate indicated. If doing no till much less would be required but we only have the means of broadcast. I could not upload the .xls so if you would like a copy pm me your email and I can send it to you.

I used a disk to break up the soil, broadcast the oats and wheat which was mixed and lightly covered with disk. We then broadcast the rape and ran over with a aerator as we do not have a cultipacker.

This method works well for us and the rates can be adjusted to your preference.

I have attached a few pics.

Thank you and we had a fun time planting them as well.

They should pop out of ground by late this week I'll post some follow-up pics.

The week was perfect falling our planting of food plots, some nice weather and several nice slow rains, should have green showing this weekend.

I'll post some pics of it's progress.

Yep, bow season is the best. Can't go this year myself, just not enough strength yet after surgery.

I gave that a lot of thought but after buying a new rifle I think I better wait for rifle season to open, I'd rather the chill stay outside right now.

That is funny right their I don't care who you are:D

My wife works as a therapist at a local university and she has a private practice we use for extra money.

She recently handed me a blank check for a new bow, I said you know they are pricey right like 2K setup and she said yep get what you want. A Hoyt is what I settled on, think I will keep her;)

Am I looking at that receipt right where it says wheat was $19.00 a bag?
Sounds about right for treated seed wheat. You could use wheat that was just harvested, and plant at a slightly higher rate for losses. I wouldn't try that with corn or soybeans, especially if they were roundup ready, or other specialty. That is illegal and could cost way more than it's worth.

It is coated seed and when planted correctly I get great germination, I could get it cheaper from a local farmer when harvesting.

But, pigweed is taking over here it is highly likely I would introduce it into my food plots. The more expensive route in the long run prevents me from walking my plots and pulling it by hand before it seeds out and takes over.

Farmers here have their labor walk the fields and pull it by hand then stack and burn it. Roundup does not kill pigweed, the fields around me such as corn, cotton, and beans have just as much pigweed sticking above the plants as does tobacco and taters.

I'll see if I can get some pics and post.

Long answer to your question but the above is my reason for paying more for my seed.

Use creek/well water and put AMS and crop oil in it, along with the glyphosate/RU. Tap water has things added by your local water treatment plant that can effect how well glyphosate and other similar chemicals work.

Mix 17 lbs of AMS to 100 gallons of water, or 4.25 lbs of AMS to 25 gallons of water (before adding herbicide to the water or it won't do any good)
Mix 2 quarts of crop oil to 100 gallons of water, or 1 pint to 25 gallons of water.
