Actually its not used every day. We bought this long ago to do some development work on our own land and for our own use only. Its paid for itself in that regard. So time isnt of the esscense here, but I do know what you were thinking and if it was used every day you would have a valid point.
Just buy the PROPER size pins, and don't look back!

They get greased daily, but the machine doesnt get babied. It pushes a lot of stumps and levels rocky ground. Will the .004 take out bushings a lot faster or wear out the frame holes? I cant really see the frame holes being an issue, as like I said, we cant even push the old pins out. Theres nothing rusty there, its like the pins grew, or were assembled with a press.
Why would you grease daily if it wasn't used daily?

I need to replace a couple bushings on a dozer. The originals are 1.965” diameter and need to be torched out as they will not come with 20 tons of pressure.
Now I can get new replacements for $480/pr at the same specs, or can get some that are quite close but the diameter is 1.961 for $185/pr.
Quality is equal, (same mfgr) what would you do? Will .004 extra clearance on a 2” pin cause issues?
What's the tolerance on the pins in question i.e. 1.961 +/- .XXX? What's the straightness spec on the pin? What's the runout spec on the pin? Both will affect the fit of the pin in the hole. If I had to make this decision I would think about whether or not 2.5X the cost gets you 2.5x the usable life of the undersized and cheaper pins. Also figure in the hassle of replacing pins in the future.

Another thing to think about is why the larger pin is so much more expensive. Is the steel used for both sets the same with similar wear properties? Is the surface hardness the same? Same manufacturer = same quality isn't necessarily true. There's a reason why one pin is 2.5X the cost of the other, and your task is to figure out what the reason is .... or just buy once, cry once.

The list price of each is pretty close. The selling price is the difference of buying from the dealer or from ebay,.
As far as the tolerance and other specs, I really don’t know, but would assume theyre within 1 or 2 thousandths. I doubt my dealer could order any certain exact diameter either. He’d get in his order what JD sent.

hmmm
Assuming you're using it for business, you buy the proper ones as they are a 'write off '. if 'personal use', buy the less expensive ones. Even if they last only 1/2 as long, you're still $$ ahead on the parts.
