Last night off the game camera. He was bedding down in some brush next to the neighbors driveway just before rifle season.

Gypsy and I spooked him and couple times while out walking.

Finally got some proof that I wasn't full of it 😬😬😬😬

Great photos but sure doesn't look like Virginia. More like Wyoming or Montana. 😊 I've driven through VA on my way from Arkansas to New York and don't remember scenery like that.
Oops. Need to update profile. Moved to southern idaho in april. Been a hectic year. Heres farm in Va

Makes a lot more sense now. 😂 I was exhausted during the two-day drive from Cabot, AR to Yonkers, NY back in November of 2013, but not so exhausted that I didn't notice the scenery in VA.

Once you go east of the Rocky Mountain Front, Montana starts to look like southern Idaho. Great photos for sure! Congratulations on moving West!

Can't get a decent picture/video but the forest birds are having a major event on the feeders off the porch. First snow of the season, ~1.5" and they are going nuts on the feeders. I won't go into who is visiting but there are a bunch of 'em. It is more fun than any show on the TV.

I have to fuel the genset but I don't want to disturb the event.

Makes me wonder what the French were looking at when they gave Boise the name. Boi is french for wood so perhaps after months of seeing no trees they found a couple! 😂

North Idaho is awesome for sure. Bonners Ferry, Sandpoint, Couer d'Alene .... great towns.

Doesnt take long to get from boise into forests. Just a bit north.
My uncle lives up north. Pretty country up there for sure and reminds me alot of the mountains i was in in central va.

Where i am now is just a different kind of pretty. To make up for no trees we planted 175 poplar trees on 5 acres 15 years ago (dads farm that im taking over).

I seem to remember your thread when you talked about taking over your dad's farm in Idaho. I have a good friend in Boise who worked at HP for years and have visited him many times. I went skiing with him up at Bogus Basin, and remember him taking me to a really good Basque restaurant. There's a significant Basque and sheep population in and around Boise, or there used to be.

I've spent a lot of time down in Belt, MT near Great Falls and the scenery is very much like yours. As you say, it has it's own kind of beauty.

Brushed the snow off the tank and went for an enjoyable cruise down an old logging road yesterday morning. Lightly snowing and just below freezing, and nobody to be seen anywhere (Heaven!). Snow stopped and the sun came out just in time for lunch.

Are those pet moose? 😂 I ask because you seem to have no trouble finding them! Perhaps they're as common as deer over the border.

Beautiful pictures.

On the way home from supper last night the DW had broken tracks earlier in the day on the logging trail - on the way down heading out for her vacation. I followed the tracks which were basically firm slush. On the way home as I gained altitude and the stuff got deeper, of course I had it in 4WD. Toward the top and our cut off the wheels slipped a few times. It was only 4" of wet whiteness.

Where we live the roads are all private via easement. Logging trails and many switch backs and 30-40% grades. It's an understanding that a land owner maintains his part of the trail. I see the tracks in your photo showing the spinning tires. That really irks me. Is it your experience that no one locks their hubs until they can't go any further? Spinning and kicking rock and destroying the road bed?

We engage 4wd all year, in and out. It keeps the juices flowing. It protects the road bed. But some people have to see how far they can go....

Not pets, although a young bull thought he was part of the family last winter and was always hanging around.

I'd love to see a moose or two. They're not overly common up here even though they're around. I see elk all the time and of course lots of deer.
