The local vet had a metal shed out in a field close to her house so she could keep an eye on the hay burners. Not a freekin cloud in the sky and then one big black cloud and crack a bolt hit the elm tree by the shed jumped to the shed roof or sides and killed 4 horses,, Was not a pretty sight trust me, and it didn't smell real either,,
I was wondering about the surge protectors for an electric fence, or did somebody already say that?

Got it back up and running :D got lucky and didn't have to replace the wire this time. Here's a pick of the surge protector. The wires for the outside loop tie into it, and a second set of wires tie the surge protector to the transmitter

The invisible fence works off from a radio signal to the collar. There are two types. One is wireless and works for about a 1/2 acre perimeter around the devise. And you just plug it in to a covenient outlet and set the distance. That one sends a shock when the collar gets a certain distance from the transmitter. I'm not a fan of that style. It keeps shocking till the collar gets back into contact with the transmitter. Not sure how it behaves with a power outage. I personally didn't like that feature.

The more popular style uses a wire loop that is either buried or attached to a fence. A radio signal emits from the wire loop. When the collar gets to a certain point close to the wire it starts beeping as a warning. When it gets even closer it starts shocking. :) The draw back to this is in like coach geo's case, his dog will run through the area real fast, get shocked a couple times and then is out of range of the wire. I know someone else who had a similiar experience with his husky. But it's definitely the better choice out of the two styles of invisible fence.

Not historical like it will be in the history books; not hysterical like someone is gonna freak out. Hystorical, like somebody blowing milk through his nose while tryin' ta look angry. :D:D:D
I've had a few moments with the dogs, and the grandkiddo's that fit your description. One was when the dog poo'd in my son's sneakers :D The other was when my grandson was 2. He threatened to take off his flip flop and whoop me with it when I got on to him for messing with the bbq  My wife was choking on that one :D

Dave, where did you get the surge protector? Did you have to order it or is it something they carry at lowes? Does it hook to the line loop or the outlet?
Daren,

We got it from Pet Safe. Call them and see if they will send one to you. The surge protector plugs in between the wall outlet and the unit. It SHOULD also have connections got the signal wire to hook into it.

After getting the surge protector we have not had any burn outs of the units. We are using 2 of them. One for the back yard, and the other to keep the "Kids" from attacking the front door. We ran the signal wire under the laminate wood flooring about 3 feet inside the front door. They get about 2 feet from the wire and stop dead in their tracks.

Good luck with yours. I'm sure you will like it as much as we like ours.
