THey're everywhere here too. From game & fish comission plates with fish, bear, deer, dogs to hummingbirds, ivory-billed peckerwoods, then there's the Komen foundation plates (pink), among many many others.

I have a crappie on mine. They didn't have the rainbow trout one when I went in. If I didn't have to get tags that day, I'd have waited until the trout was available. Nothing against the black crappie, though. I just like the coloring on the trout plates a little better.

There's a tax incentive too.... you get to deduct the cost of the plate in full from your income tax, and I take every deduction I can legally get....especially after what the IRS put me (and 10 of my coworkers) through in 2012.

I had one for years, RESQDIVR.

Got my rescue diver certification back in the 90's and was part of a county wide dive team through my fire department.

Team broke up and we donated all our gear to another department and I quit diving so I went back to a standard issued plate.

When I was stationed in Charleston, SC, in the mid-80's, I had a '65 Chevy stepside shortbed pickup. It was VERY tired, a charming potpourri of various colors of primer, rust, previous paint and raw bondo. I had a custom plate "BUDS". Stood for Big, Ugly Dirty and Smelly.

The fun part was, it had a fresh drive train. Lightly built 350, heavy clutch and a Muncie 4 speed. Deceptively quick, embarrassed a few much newer, nicer-looking cars with it...:D

There's one at work: CLNLSS. Only thing I can come up with is colonless. Someone got their colon taken out and got a vanity plate?

In New York, especially rural counties, there’s certain letter or number combinations that stand for your home County. My area it’s NH or 4X. I do have an NH plate.

I seen this one when I was down there.

Years ago I seen one that had YFOOG on the plate. In that state they had two tags, one front, one back. Didn't dawn on me what it said till I looked in the rear view mirror and saw GOOFY

Mama got a new car awhile back. She signed the power of attorney so I could pick up her plate for her. When I got home without the plate she wasn't buying the, "They ran out of plates", line. She was pleasantly surprised when they showed up in the mail.
