Hey all! Appreciate the wisdom as I near 3 hours on my b2601...

When parking should all implements be resting on the ground? I have a loader and box blade and I always make sure to rest it on ground before turning off.

Thanks!

Hydraulics will leak down with time. The general practice is to place implements on the ground in the position you want them to be verses waiting for the implement to leak down and get into a position that you may not want it to be.

Backhoe attachments have horror stories of owners coming back and finding that the backhoe had leaked down and damaged items (walls, vehicles, etc.).

PS-like yourself, I make sure my attachments are resting on the ground.

Yes. And leave the 3 pt lift lever down. Otherwise, if it has leaked down, it will come up as soon as you start the tractor, even if you don't expect it. (Actually this may not happen on a few tractors, but it's a good habit to develop.)

I relieve everything after shutting the engine off. It only involves dropping the 3PH and moving the joystick around.

Yup, put everything down, or it will eventually come down by itself. Hydraulic systems are good, but not perfect. They leak, on purpose. I'm not as much a stickler for bleeding all pressure, as that will normally take care of itself, but I do make sure nothing is doing to settle after I shut it down. Kids will be kids, and if one of them pushes a lever while another is under something, that's going to be a serious injury. If you have a quick hitch, one more little trick is to disengage any attachments on the rear when you park the tractor to make sure nothing can fall on anyone. With a QH, an undriven attachment can be hooked up in a blink. There's no reason to leave it connected if the tractor is parked for a few days. More than likely, the next time you use it, you're probably changing attachments anyway.

I put everything on the ground, then relieve any residual pressure. My neighbor, with a B2150 sporting a 60" box blade, always left the box blade up at the top of the travel. Several of us were talking a little way away from the tractor, and saw his 40 something SIL messing with the parked tractor. We went over to see what he was doing, and about that time the box blade SLAMMED to the ground, narrowly missing the neighbor's wife's foot. SIL had cranked on the knob that adjusted the 3 point drop rate, then threw the 3 point lever.
He just wanted "to see what all those levers did." She was wearing open toed sandals, so it would not have been pretty. SIL got chewed out, and neighbor now puts his implements on the ground.

My children frequently play on my tractor in the shop when I'm out there working. A 4 year old will push and pull every level or button on that tractor - just imagine if the FEL bucket or some heavy 3 pt implement was up in the air and he pushed or pulled the right lever and dropped it on another kid, the dog, etc...

I ALWAYS leave implements on the ground for that reason alone. I can't imagine a time I'd ever want them hovering in the air.

PS - after the second time I started my tractor at full throttle, I learned to check EVERYTHING before even turning on the key.

I was helping a man years ago do some work on his farm. He left his bucket a few feet off the ground when he went in for lunch. When he came out he discovered his dog under the bucket. Not a pleasant scene.
