A LONG while back I made mention of the vacant lot next to the house we were trying to buy. Remember posting pictures, but darned if I can find it.....

Property was in foreclosure for years. I've been mowing the 1 acre lawn of the vacant house across the road for 6 or 8 years.

Local farmer bought the place from the bank - has a 10 acre cornfield out in the river flat that joins his fields. We had an agreement 26 months ago....

After being jerked around by the village for 2 years:mad::mad:, the farmer finally got it subdivided...10 ac field, 5 acres with house, and 1.75 acres on my side of the road.

We closed yesterday. Got it for a very, very good price.

Lot is about 180'd x 450'w. Makes our road frontage ~800'. Guessing there's 100+ maple taps on it, but some are Norway, rest are Sugar maples. Deer love the place, but no shooting in the village limit.

I'll attach some pictures when I get a chance. Otherwise, it didn't happen!

Congratulations, are planning to tap the trees this spring? I am a hobby sugar maker myself.

Thanks BAP!
Probably not. I'm okay with 25 taps, and can get that on yard trees.
I have another neighbor/farmer that does ~1,000 taps. Have talked to his Dad about a lease. They've looked at this piece for a while.

This is the view from across the road while mowing the house lawn, which I've done for years.....Probably extends another 250+ feet to the left (north)...

There was a 3-story Chicken Coop here......deer like it now, as evidenced by this year's fawn in the middle.

Adjoins my yard...couple weeks ago....

Boy that looks good. My woods are mainly beech, oak and hickory. Not a lot of maple and what is there is pretty small. I'd love to be able to have enough trees to make my own syrup. I used to order it from a gentleman up in Orford NH but he retired so I am looking for a local farm to get my fix.

On the plus side I have lots of deer, turkey, squirrel and pheasants back eating all the nuts.
