Assuming you can see some wires going into the seat itself to suppprt idea that there is a switch sensor in there, then climb up on the tractor and tilt seat toward you. Undo whatever screws hold a hard plate that is the base of the seat. (The problem with these directions is that I have one of those bouncy seats, and so the whole deal might look different on a different style). Once the plate is off, in the center might be a space in the foam occupied by a dome shaped piece of plastic that would be deformed when you sit on it. The cardboard goes between the dome and the sensor switch. My hypothesis about the worse when cold problem was that after my rear warmed up the plastic it was more flexible. Bouncing up and down and sitting crooked sometimes would get it going.
