OK yesterday, a lovely morning, cool light breeze blue skies a nice morning to cut down a couple of dead ash trees for firewood.
Saw, oil, gas, tools ( just in case, but hell its lovely morning what could go wrong) Start the Bota hook up the wagon and put everything in and off we go. Birds chirping, sun shining, diesel just purring along.
Unload, saw gas and oil and over the the FIRST tree, clear everything away mark your notch cut it and start cutting,( eye and hearing protection on ) Then about all most all the way to the notch, here comes a big puff of wind, set the tree right back on the bar, wedged tight, grrrrrrrr
OK back to the garage looking for my wedges, down to the shop, in the basement,,grrrrrrr
OK find an old ax I dont like beating on an ax but you do what you have to do,,right? start to drive it in I figured I could get in enough to get the bar loose, or open it up for a splitting maul,, yup ,, both stuck and the tree hasn't moved off the bar.
Back to the garage ,get the block and tackle and a couple chains ,,,,back into the woods,,, hook up one end and the block, then to to hook up the other end,,,annnnd yep I was just this much to short,, back up find a chain with 2 hooks back down ,,,
OK we got this now,, tie the rope off to the tractor draw bar and off we go and go and go and then realize the damn chain came unhooked,, back up hook the chain and off we go again,,, oh joy the sound of a crashing tree,,yeahhhh,,
But wait there's more!
Well the chain is kind of loose on the saw so I tighten it up ahhhh NO,, the chain has stretched to the point of not being able to be adjusted on this bar,, No worries I have a couple more chains,,, put one on adjusted it and went to start marking my cuts for length,,,
First mark PING,,, chain is in 2 pieces,, I dont know what it was but when the chain hit it, what ever it was got torn out and broke the chain,,,grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr,,,,
OK one more chain,, an old one but sharp so we should be good to go,,,,, Nope somebody must have forgotten to sharpen both sides of the chippers,,, no way in hell could I get a good cut,, then it started to jerk WTF
About 19 or the chippers broke off,,one more junk chain
So 4 hours to get one tree down, 3 chains shot and Im not a happy camper,,,
On a good day it should have taken 20 min to knock it down and 2 hours to cut and haul to the splitter
OH well, at least it too my mind off other things
