is there any awy to tell if the detent is on the valve by looking at it ? would the end of the spool be longer or something like that??

Correct --- the detent spool will be longer. The process works like this from the operator's standpoint: Push the joystick forward and the loader goes down --- loader starts to lift front of tractor --- push joystick further forward to a soft "pop" ---- tractor front end drops and loader stays on the ground. If you do it fast enough, you skip the step that results in the front of the tractor lifting.
