So inherited this thing from my grandfather I think its a 1998-2001 approximately. Second time I ran out of gas. Once was several years ago and after much sputtering it bled itself and all was good.
Today however my daughter mowed and didn't leave enough gas to get to the fueling tank so here we are.
Filled the tank and it wont start. We changed the easiest to get to fuel filter and tried starting it with that fuel line open to see if any gas was even getting that far. Sun has set so we cant get the mow deck off too access the other filter tonight. Checked all fuses they are fine. Everything in neutral pto disengaged. Had to jump the battery we tried to start so much so battery is all good. No kill switch in the seat.
Any tips we could try tomorrow would be awesome

Gasoline or diesel? If it is diesel, the lines need to be purged. It’s different for each model.

Diesel. Its supposed to not need bled as I remember freaking out the last time this happened. I cant find any info online or in the manual how to purge it manually all it says is turn on for 10 seconds then start engine and it should sputter for 30 seconds as it purges the air and you are good to go.

My truck bleeding process is turn off and on a few times without starting. Maybe it needs a few more times of off/on.

The last guy that changed my fuel filters didn’t know that and burned up a starter trying to just crank it.

The key on for 10 seconds is to let the fuel pump push the air out. Do you hear the fuel pump clicking with the key in the "run" position? If not there is a fuse for it. I would let the pump run longer and try again. Mine starts quicker if I use the glow plugs for 5 seconds even in warm weather.

manual for my BX23S says .... turn key on for 30 seconds, shut off, WAIT 30 seconds, then 10 seconds on and start. I think the WAIT is important, to be sure the air has been removed out of the fuel.
I also preheat gloplugs for 3-5 seconds ( whatever time the dash moves the guages....),always starts earier Winter, Spring,Summer and Fall....

we did turn it on for 10 seconds first ,no clicking in the fuel pump at all. Stopping by the Kubota store in a few minutes to see if they have a new fuel filter hopefully that is it. Is the fuse in the same housing as all the other fuses for the fuel pump or separate? All the fuses under the dash are fine none are blown.

Im thinking the fuel pump is out or something. We have never had this issue before changing filters or running out of gas. There is no clicking coming from the pump either. We have done the wait thing and no change.

You list the tractor as a BX200...Never heard of one...not just a typo in you thread title, as you also list a BX200 under your avatar.

BX2200?

You should hear the fuel pump clicking when you turn on the key. I assume even if the fuel line would be blocked. Since you do not hear it, but I assume you could previously, I would start there. It is possible the tractor did not run out of fuel, and the pump failed while it was being operated...

Edit: I see Inxane and I are on the same page...but he types faster!

Yes apparently I type so fast I forget numbers LOL. BX2200. Idk how I did that twice . No excuses just brain fried. I hate mechanical stuff. Thanks now to figure out how to fix my typ-o too !
There is gas that will pour out of the pump. I have checked all the lines they are clear and installed 2 new filters. I guess it wont hurt to replace it anyway. I will update if that is the issue. $175 later I do have a fuel pump Ill replace it this afternoon. When I looked in the tank it was bone dry so I am assuming it was empty. Could it be the fuel pump simply burned up trying to re pressurize the lines on an empty tank? I mean this is the original fuel pump on a 20 yr old machine

I wish you'd stop typing the word "gas" ;-) when you mean diesel.

Just to be clear, you are saying the engine turns over but will not start correct?

There is a fuel cutoff solenoid on the injector pump, that must be energized to enable the tractor to run. Check all your fuses to be sure it is not a blown fuse.

The fuel cutoff solenoid has two coils, one that is called a start coil, and one that is called a run coil. The start coil is strong enough to activate the solenoid, and is powered through the starter solenoid circuit. The run coil is weaker, and not strong enough to activate the fuel cutoff solenoid, but is strong enough to keep the solenoid activated once the start coil has done its job.

If the start coil failed by opening, the tractor would not turn over. IF it failed by shorting, the tractor would still turnover but not run, as fuel would remain cut off.

If the run coil fails, or a fuse blows that feeds it, the tractor will start but immediately shut down when the key is moved from the start to the run position, and the starter motor stops turning.

This description is valid for all but some of the last produced units, which were given the wiring of the following model during the transition to the newer model.

Hopefully since you bought the fuel pump, it will be your issue. My fuel cutoff solenoid on my BX2200 failed while I was mowing a couple years ago, that is why I know these details. I got my replacement off Ebay or Amazon, for twenty percent of the cost of the OEM part, and it has worked flawlessly to date.

Edit: Me too, say fuel, not gas... ;)

I know my BX22 would run with the fuel pump fuse blown. The dealer pinched a wire when they did the fuel gauge fix under warrantee. I found the pinched wire at a rear taillight and the same fuse for the taillights runs the fuel pump. Even though it would run with no fuel pump, no way could you get it primed after running out of fuel. The fuse is a 15 amp but I can't tell you which position in the fuse holder, and it is with the other fuses. You need the fuel pump to run before looking at the fuel stop solenoid. I doubt that is your problem.
