Old tires for a road base

Neat idea, but I'm wondering how well the tires would stay in place in a frost-prone area.

That's what i was wondering when i seen those pictures.

Maybe others will comment, but I remember hearing that's why land fills won't accept tires.... something along the lines that they will always raise to the top.
