could they be security drones checking out IR or motion signals in areas someone with a few bucks is concerned about.
i have seen them used around a NG compressor station in a remote area I used to hunt in.
On a 10 acre site they have a 30 second response time from takeoff to identification of an IR or motion hit on your property if you have the bucks and desire for a little more security.

Local news here showed a Ag drone that weighed 250 lbs , has a hopper on it for seeding.
The Ag drone seed company was flying over a corn field seeding winter rye.
The farmer said because his fields are generally wet after corn harvest the rye is planted and grows after the harvest and this was his second year hiring them.

They are not a threat.
They are from Iran.
They are not from a foreign adversary.
We don't know who they are from.

All this from the very same government that let a foreign surveillance balloon traverse the entire country before dispatching it. That government is also the same in that didn't say anything about it until civilians spotted it. And yes, the same government that told us all that it did not have a propulsion system which we found out later that it did (and used US based networks to navigate!)
I'm honestly surprised no one is shooting at them.

Everyone is using drones now for mapping. We use them in the Forest Service for arial photography and fire observations.

If they are legit drones, then they are registered and have RID attached (or integrated) making it easy to identify.

You would think the military could hack into one and take control to land it. They say they are car size so you can't just randomly shoot them down over a city. They are all lit up so not trying to hide that's for sure.

My guess is chineese nationals flying these things. I would take a shot at one if I knew it wouldn't land on someones house. But if it was a alien, probably get vaporized.

My guess is they belong to the government and are in final testing over a major city to see what sort of issues could arise from electronic interference and other things... If they were anything from a different country, they would have been eliminated already, and if they were something a non-government entity, our gov would know all about them and release the details. ...

Reminds me of the line from the movie Independence Day
"Police are asking residents to stop shooting at them"
