I have used 15W-40 year around oil in mine since 78.
No problems. Make sure it is for a DIESEL.
I have used oil from tractor supply or Rotella or Delo. Walmart also sells these.
Mine has a decal on the fender giving the capacity.
Someone should be able to give you that info.
A rough way would be to make sure it is full then drain it and measure what comes out.
Checking it while adding when you get near full. Make sure tractor is on the level. When near full start tractor momentarily to fill filter and re-check level.
I also change oil at 15 hours when the recommended was 75. For me that is about once a year.
I change the filter at the same time and have found that a cross reference for the Kubota filters was a Fram. NAPA auto parts does carry cross referenced parts for KUBOTAS.
Like my father used to say "OIL is CHEAPER than STEEL".
Good Luck David

Personally I use Amsoil. I don't mind paying more for the extra protection. Only change it once a year so it's not that bad. Oil is way cheaper than repair cost any day.

I checked out that chart for my L185 and it gave a capacity of .97gal
(less than 4 qts)
I have always put in 4.9 qts as on my tractor fender decal and owners manual.
So be careful with that chart it may be right for yours but was not for mine.

Just another note My L185 has 2 drain plugs next to each other.
Not sure yours will but if Drain both.
I also run mine to cut grass before draining to make sure it is hot.
You probably know that.
